Move-Outs A Necessary Step For Large-Scale Fire Damage In Los Angeles
Large-scale fires are unforeseeable and can be extremely stressful.
Move-Outs A Necessary Step For Large-Scale Fire Damage
No two fires are the same. How the blaze was treated, was it contained within a small area, the type of materials burned and whether the contents in the affected area are salvageable or not all influence restoration procedure. When fires burn at high temperatures, the structural integrity of your property can be put at risk. Secondary water-damage from fire-fighting efforts can also damage your furnishing, fixtures, and valuables.
When we get a call out to repair a property from fire damage in Los Angeles, they tend to be small, contained fires. We can cordon off the affected area, remove furniture to other areas of the house and set to work. However, if our fire technician finds evidence of structural damage, we may need to perform a move-out service.
Move-outs can be expensive, so at SERVPRO we always try to work onsite. However, when structural damage occurs, you and your family's safety is our first priority. The property must be vacated. We can then begin the cleanup phase using powerful, truck-mounted pumps to drain excess water. The damage that is deemed to be non-salvageable can be recorded and disposed of including building materials, furniture, clothes or fittings.
Our goal during cleanup is to prepare the affected area so that re-modeling contractors can begin restoring your home. To improve the indoor air-quality we can use Ozone generators to completely eliminate odors and harmful toxins left behind by fire. By clearing possessions and vacating the property, remodeling, repainting and cleaning work can be completed faster.
We understand that having to leave your property and stay in temporary accommodation can carry a heavy emotional burden. SERVPRO offers a pack-out service to make your situation as comfortable as possible. A pack-out service involves itemizing, removing and labeling your salvageable possessions. We can then move them to a remote facility for cleaning. In some cases, using advanced, ultrasonic equipment for jewelry and other valuables.
Large-scale fires are unforeseeable and can be extremely stressful. SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale has extensive experience in restoration. Call our 24/7 emergency center (818) 214-7958 now to arrange a service.

Reducing and Then Eliminating Commercial Water Damage in Glendale
Water Damage from Leaking Aquariums or Plumbing in Glendale? Call SERVPRO to Keep the Animals and Customers Happy
Complicated Water Loss Mitigation Is a Cornerstone of SERVPRO Services
Glendale businesses often suffer water damage. It is usually very minor, such as a collected puddle of water under a pipe or sink. In some cases, when water flows overnight, the damage can be extensive.
For a Glendale pet store, commercial water damage means not just loss of income. There can also be additional costs to house the various animals until a SERVPRO restoration team can restore the building and property to a safe, dry environment.
It only takes an inch or two of water to get into cages and ruin cloth, wood chips, and other bedding. Chips and shredded paper require immediate disposal, but our technicians can remove soaked bedding and hang it out to dry in the sun. If the weather does not permit this, they can use the commercial-sized dryers.
If the bedding and other property remained under water for more than a day, there is an increased risk of mold expanding and growing into a threat. To stop growth and kill any active spores, team members spray every suspected item with an anti-fungal agent from our chemical inventory. SERVPRO team members can also add an anti-fungal product to a detergent to kill mold spores while also cleaning property of other stains, dirt, and animal odors.
An increase of water often leads to an increase in humidity levels. In a pet shop, unlike most businesses, this can lead to their inventory becoming very uncomfortable and even suffer some health problems. To reduce the humidity level so animals can return to the store, technicians use a combination of dehumidifiers, exhaust fans, and air movers. The devices used is dependent upon the types of live animals present in the pet shop, if any.
Dehumidifiers can remove over 20 gallons of water from the air every 24 hours, depending on the amount of moisture present. Exhaust fans draw the damp air inside the structure and force it outside. Air movers increase circulation with warm, dry air to push the damp air toward the fans. Technicians can direct this air over surfaces to speed up the drying process.
Our goal at SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is to help every business return to dry, safe condition so owners can start serving customers as quickly as possible. If you have water issues with your business, contact our agency today at (818) 290-8255 to set up an appointment.

Your Home May Suffer Flood Damage During A Storm
Seaside cities are always hit harder by ocean-based storms than inland cities, and this could leave your home vulnerable to flood damage. Storms can gain sudden traction and size, sometimes rendering the predicted severity of the rain and wind useless. Intense winds and rains can cause flooding in the streets, and this flooding can carry debris along its currents. Large rocks, tree branches, or even street signs that are being carried along with the storm waters can break the basement window of your home. Suddenly, there is open access to your home, which allows the floodwaters to rush in and settle there.
The flood damage inside of your Los Angeles home impacted your basement entertainment room. The carpets are soaked through, the entertainment stand is waterlogged, and your furniture has been exposed. Upon finding the damage in your basement, and four inches of water, it is essential for you to call for professional help as soon as possible. The tool has a heating element as well as powerful suction, making it an excellent tool for the job. How Commercial Water Removal Services in Los Angeles Prevents Downtime in Packing Plants
SERVPRO Works Hard to Keep Packing and Warehouses Open in Los Angeles After a Major Water Loss
Experienced Technicians, Industry Leading Equipment and a Green Fleet Ready to Roll Mitigates Water Damage in Large Buildings
Water can invade your packing plant in Los Angeles from a damaged roof or a broken water line. Removing the water as soon as possible after you have finished making repairs keeps your business operations from falling behind schedule any more than necessary.
SERVPRO's IICRC-certified technicians have experience restoring businesses of all types after such disasters strike, and we begin by applying effective commercial water removal techniques in Los Angeles. We use industry-approved methods that help reduce current damage and prevent your facility from sustaining additional harm. Our machinery, equipment, and tools use the latest developments in restoration science and are crucial to our ability to successfully mitigate the affected site.
When our Green Fleet arrives, we begin extracting the water with the most suitable equipment. We use a range of extraction tools, from submersible pumps attached to our pump truck to small-sized wands that rapidly remove water from smaller areas and along walls, under low-lying equipment, and other tight spots. We know water travels across all surfaces, including horizontal ones, quickly and search for these hidden areas with moisture detection equipment. Infrared sensors can detect the cooler temperatures caused by displaced water, revealing the locations to us.
Once evaporated into the air, extraction of water vapor must occur to complete the restoration of your plant. SERVPRO crews set up desiccant machines so rapid drying occurs. Moisture condenses on cold metal frames and other structures within your business, making the application of air movers crucial. These lift moisture off surfaces so the desiccant machines can pull the last remaining moisture out of your interior environment. We can trailer in large units with our own power source to treat extremely large volumed warehouses and buildings.
This drying out of the air protects areas containing porous materials such as packing boxes, shipping labels, and other items. Once exposure to high moisture occurs, these materials can lose their functionality and create problems with fulfilling orders for your clients. We do everything we can to prevent such occurrences. Working with other businesses in our local area helps keep our economy healthy.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale can help your packing plant around Atwater Village or Highland Park quickly recover after a disaster involving intrusive water with our commercial water removal methods. Call our service at (818) 214-7516 for 24-hour service whenever you need us.

When Flood Damage Leads To Mold Growth In Your Highland Park Home
Mold damages in your Highland Park home are not uncommon to see following high volumes of water.
When Flood Damage Leads To Mold Growth
With the heavy rains that come through the area in the months of July and August every year, your Highland Park home runs the risk of some unexpected flooding or substantial water damage. While this can prove detrimental on its own, inadequate cleaning and drying of these issues can lead to even worse conditions compounding on top of the troubles that you face.
Mold damages in your Highland Park home are not uncommon to see following high volumes of water. Often when the area is not cleaned and dried well enough, removing all of the moisture from the affected areas, mold spores in the environment have a chance to seat and thrive. This mold growth not only poses a risk to your family's health, but it can also erode and degrade the materials it chooses to colonize on, requiring them to get removed and replaced.
The trouble with identifying mold damage among present widespread water concerns is that you might not notice the musty odor or the look of mold growing amid the debris and damages. This scenario is where choosing professional restoration services like our SERVPRO team can help you get a better idea of the damage your home has sustained and the appropriate actions to follow to fix it.
Many homeowners opt for cheaper and unlicensed assistance in putting their flooded homes back to the way they used to be, and in turn, get unprofessional results. When the area does not get completely dried and the moisture entirely removed, mold can begin to grow and spread in as little as three days. Considering how long that it takes for many homes to get restored following flood damages even with SERVPRO restoration, this is not a large window of time.
However, as a homeowner in the area, you are likely aware of the persistent threats of flooding, especially this time of year. When you get posed with substantial water damages, fast action on your part can help you to avoid worsening conditions like mold and microbial growth. Give our SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale technicians a call anytime you need us at (818) 290-8255.

Water Damage Often Causes Odor Problems in Glendale Properties
Water damage can leave an unpleasant odor in your home long after the damage has been mitigated. Contact SERVPRO right away for odor elimination.
SERVPRO Enlists an Entire Group of Technicians Who Deal Primarily with Odor Elimination After Water Damage
After water enters into areas of your Glendale area home where it can cause problems, they might seem to grow in magnitude. This happens because water can create soft spots in flooring and other materials that take time to become noticeable. Affected drywall, stucco, and other wall types can also crumble, become stained, warp and bubble, lose their paint in flakes that show up on floors, and exhibit bubbled wallpaper coverings. Other problems are not seen but noticed in other ways.
If your home has had problems with water damage in Glendale, you might experience ongoing odor problems. Even after extraction of the water and the drying out of your home and furnishings occurred, odors can persist. Your home's interior might seem picture-perfect, but lingering odors can cause you to realize that a problem still plagues your home. The longer water sat inside your home, the more persistent these odors can seem to you.
Deodorization by SERVPRO technicians can help complete the restoration process by removing the odors caused by the extended presence of water. Even after the physical removal of microorganisms and other odor-causing substances takes place, odor often remains a problem. We use different methods to ensure our customers' satisfaction with the results. It is important to us that you find your home's restoration work acceptable.
SERVPRO's Odor Control Technician (OCT) solves problem odors left behind by water damage through different methods. Sometimes, odors develop during the long curing process of new adhesives used in the restoration process. Depending on the source of the odor, or sources when more than one causes problems for your family, our OCT's methods could include different techniques, or combinations, to clear the air in your home of offensive odors.
When adhesives such as those used in carpeting or other components of your home cause problems, injecting the carpet's pad with odor-killing agents can help immensely. When adhesives that bonded plastic components to the framework of your home, placing deodorizing gel packs may work – when these cannot fit, injecting similar agents into the cracks often resolves the problem.
However, not all odors come from discoverable sources, or we find them too widespread to utilize a solution that relies on a topical approach. When this situation occurs, we use machines that generate hydroxyl gas to eliminate these odors no matter their location. Hydroxyl molecules bond with odor-causing ones and makes a larger, heavier molecule. Because it now weighs more, becoming airborne and causing odors can no longer happen.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale wants to ensure that your home's restoration after water damage is complete, including the elimination of bothersome odors that persist. Call us at (818) 244-6005 to stop experiencing these problems.

In cases where water problems are severe, our SERVPRO technicians can move items out of your store to be dried in a different location. When drying out contents, all items get spread out on tables, and drying equipment gets set up in a controlled room. We use air movers and dehumidifiers to speed up the evaporation process and reduce moisture levels of your products quickly.
If foul odors exist inside your affected gift shop products, then deodorization can occur at the same off-site location. How Light Rain Leads to Flood Damage in Glendale
Stormwater Damage in Glendale Often Results from Runoff
Various Factors in Glendale Can Lead to Flooding after a Storm—SERVPRO Has the Solutions
Contrary to popular belief, colossal rainfall does not need to occur for homes in Glendale to face the prospect of flood damage. Rain in any amount can lead to flooding as soil saturation, sewer overflow, terrain abnormalities, and other factors allow a relatively small amount of water to snowball into a much bigger problem. SERVPRO prepares after every major storm to respond to widespread flooding in the area, but we also maintain readiness year-round to make sure we can help whenever and wherever disasters happen in the local area.
A major contributing factor to many cases of flood damage in Glendale is the amount of water in the soil before rainfall. While water use restrictions have helped to reduce average soil saturation in recent years, the area can remain wet for extended periods of time for a variety of reasons. In some situations, even a relatively mild bout of rain may not be able to find any space in the soil and can directly convert to a flowing sheet of floodwater. Water percolation to eventually reach the aquifer may be too slow to avoid flooding.
Road and Drainage System Damage
Drainage systems along roadways are essential in cities worldwide because all types of pavement can absorb little to no water before developing flood-like conditions. When roadways become damaged or undergo heavy maintenance, their drainage systems may sometimes be temporarily compromised, creating isolated problems when the weather turns out unfavorable. These cases are rare but can happen almost anywhere along a paved street.
Open Windows and Doors
Leaving a window open during a storm can subject the immediate room or area to enough water to soak materials and cause long-term damage without proper attention. In these situations, SERVPRO technicians make sure not to over-extend their operations and keep a low profile to prevent a relatively minor flood incident from becoming a major inconvenience.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale provides flood damage mitigation and restoration services for affected homes in the area. Call us 24/7 at (818) 244-6005.

Water Extraction and Drying are Important to Water Damage Restoration
Small leaks under the sink can suddenly gush water and leave your home facing water damage. Call the technicians at SERVPRO right away.
Certified SERVPRO Technicians Quickly Dry Out Your Property After a Water Damage Emergency
The pipe under the sink in your downstairs Glendale bathroom broke. Water ran from the bathroom and wet the carpeting in the adjoining bedroom. The carpeting is moist, which can pose a massive problem if you are slow to act. To avoid further problems such as mold growth, call in the professionals right away. Responding quick can help reduce water damage issues in your home. During the inspection, the technician can use a moisture sensor to detect if the padding is wet. The sharp probes penetrate the surface of the carpet. When moisture is present, the sensor beeps and a light flashes. Moisture sensors are ideal for helping prevent mold issues.
IICRC certified SERVPRO technicians use water damage removal extractors in Glendale in many cases like this to remove as much water as possible from wet carpeting. The three extractors we use to remove water from structures are heater, pump, and vacuum. During this type of water damage mitigation, technicians can use the vacuum extractor. Extractors are either truck mounted or portable. Both work the same and efficiently remove water from wet carpeting. Our trained technicians examine the affected area to determine what equipment is best to use in various situations. When there is a water breach such as a pipe burst, extracting water is essential to restoring the home.
In accord with water removal, drying is also a vital step in water damage restoration. Thorough extraction helps reduce drying time, which is why it may take several passes before the carpet is ready for the drying aspect. Without proper drying, within two days, mold starts to grow. SERVPRO stresses the importance of air movement in water damage restoration. Though air movers can be disruptive due to their loudness, homeowners must leave them on during the drying phase to ensure the measured level of dryness set by the technicians. Air movers restore carpeting by quickly evaporating moisture and by generating a steady and circular flow of air into the home environment. The air mover dries moisture in the air and helps accelerate the drying process.
Extra drying may be needed. Due to significant soaking, delamination may occur. Typically, glue separates from the backing when overly wet. When this happens, technicians use a technique called “floating.” During this process, carpeting is slightly pulled up from the tack strips along the wall to allow air movers to blow warm air directly under the carpet. The carpeting may “float” to some degree. “Floating” helps increase evaporation and helps lessen drying time. Fast drying can prevent delamination.

Fire Damage Cleanup in Your Eagle Rock Home After an Oven Fire
Oven fires can be caused by excess oil and grease, overflowing batter when baking, and food scraps left in the bottom of the oven.
SERVPRO is Here to Help Restore Your Home after a Kitchen Fire
Most home fires in Eagle Rock occur in the kitchen, so it is good to be prepared in case of an emergency. Oven fires can be frightening but are generally easy to contain and can many times be prevented. They can happen when you are cooking something with a lot of grease and fat, as it can splatter and create a flame. When baking, the batter can overflow, dripping to the bottom of the oven and start a fire, or food scraps left in the oven can also catch fire.
No matter the case, an oven fire and fire damage to your Eagle Rock home is something that needs to be handled right away. Not only do you have the damage from the fire to deal with, but also any smoke that was created. Settled smoke and soot is acidic and can create further damage to your home. At SERVPRO, our staff is always on standby to help you when you need it, and we are specially trained to handle cleaning up after a fire.
Smoke and soot particles are products of incomplete combustion. They are carcinogens which are thought to be dangerous and can begin to degrade contents of your home within just a few days. When dealing with smoke and soot, SERVPRO techs wear respirators, gloves, and other protective clothing. Ventilation is essential, and if possible, we let the contaminants in the air outside.
Our restoration professionals evaluate the contents of your home to determine if they need to be replaced, or if we can successfully restore them to a preloss condition. Sentimental value, cost, and antique value are all taken into consideration. In many cases, if the items are not directly damaged by the fire or excessive heat, they can be salvaged and restored.
Odor can also be an issue. The first step in getting rid of these odors is getting rid of the source. We can eliminate the odors many times with cleaning methods, but sometimes the item itself may have to be discarded.

A Burst Pipe Inside of Your Glendale Crawl Space May Leave You in Need of Water Removal Services
Water damage in your crawlspace can cause structural damage, as well as help proliferate a mold infestation. Contact SERVPRO right away.
SERVPRO Technicians Quickly Dry Out Your Property to Help Prevent Any Secondary Damages
When a pipe that runs through your crawl space bursts and creates a need for professional water removal services, the situation can be challenging. Crawl Spaces are small and can be difficult to maneuver inside of, which can make it hard to remove the still water from within it. However, settling to try and take the water out yourself with an everyday wet/dry vacuum might not be very practical, and the equipment to dry the space thoroughly is very pricey. Hiring professional services can save you money on this cost and makes sure that the job is thoroughly done.
Removing the water from your Glendale crawl space may not be easy, but it is essential to get it out of your home. Leaving the water for prolonged amounts of time can cause the potential for mold growth to rise. If the floor of your crawl space is a dirt floor, the mixture can cause mud to form, making it even harder to operate inside. Excessive water can rust any metal that is inside of the space, especially around the piping. To avoid complications caused by the initial problem it is best to get the water out as soon as possible.
SERVPRO can arrive at your home to begin the removal very soon after your initial call. Our team of IICRC-certified techs can investigate the damage and devise the best plan for the unique size and placement of your crawl space. SERVPRO uses advanced equipment like extractors and portable pumps to remove the water. If there is a low enough spot in your crawl space, we can even use a submersible pump to drain water from the area. Our goal is to get the water out as quickly as possible, and these tools allow us to do so.
Do not hesitate if a burst pipe leaves any part of your home flooded with water that needs removal. Dial SERVPRO of Eagle Rock and South Glendale at (818) 244-6005. We strive to arrive quickly to get the work started.

Better Understanding of Mold Remediation In Your Glendale Residence
Moisture Causes Mold in Glendale Homes--Contact SERVPRO for Remediation and Cleanup
Mold Growth Is a Problem That Needs a Remedy--Call SERVPRO
Realizing that many sources of moisture could adversely affect your Glendale home, action should be taken. Once you start to see how the smallest of things could bring about lasting dampness and a moist atmosphere, it starts to make sense how readily mold growth can occur in your residence. While this might not be something that is uncommon to see, you need to address this problem at its initial discovery.
Fighting mold damages in your Glendale residence often get believed to be a problem exclusively for a homeowner to contend with alone. Worse still, some homeowners do not believe that the problem is pressing, leaving the mold colonies to grow and thrive with no remediation efforts whatsoever. While this might be a widespread misconception, mold remediation is something that needs to happen quickly and thoroughly. The best way to accomplish this is through professional restoration services like what our SERVPRO technicians can provide.
From the moment that our specialists arrive at your home, we walk through the damaged and affected areas to get a full shape of the issues that we face when remediation begins. Locating the source of the moisture that affects this area are a part of this initial inspection, as repairing this vulnerable area or appliance can prevent moisture from feeding future mold spores to make new colonies.
While removal of the colonies plays a critical role in the work that we do for your home, another important component is drying out the area to remove the food source for the mold spores to continue to seat and thrive. This process typically gets accomplished with the use of industrial strength dehumidification equipment, air movers and scrubbers, and negative air pressure to ensure containment.
Mold remediation is a positive step that you can take when you find fungal growth in your home. With the potential health effects now getting linked with exposure to active colonies, there is little time to waste to take care of this problem when it is present in your home. Safety Precautions During Flood Damage Remediation in Your Glendale Home
Long-term exposure to water can cause structural damage to your home making it unsafe for everyone.
SERVPRO is Here to Help Restore Your Home after a Flood
Flooding can occur no matter where you reside. Being prepared ahead of time in Glendale is the best way to prevent flood damage to your home. Floods can happen when the capacity of the existing drainage system is overwhelmed by water runoff. Heavy rains can also enter buildings through windows, doors, or cracks in the foundation. You may not be able to prevent floodwaters from getting into your home entirely, but there are actions you can take to minimize the damage.
Investing in a sump pump, rain gutters and sandbags for your Glendale home are just a few precautions you can use. When the floodwaters still get in, however, you need to have the flood damage handled right away. The longer the water sits, the more damage is done, so reach out to our professional SERVPRO staff. We have the tools and experience to get the water out of your home promptly.
Since floods can cause significant damage to a building, storm-damaged structures can pose hazards. Long-term exposure to water can weaken materials like drywall and flooring, which creates a danger for everyone. We look for structural hazards before we proceed with water mitigation and restoration. We have you and your family stay out of the home until we are sure it is safe. In cases that are extreme, an engineer may need to inspect the building.
If there is any sign of a gas leak, we leave and call the local gas company or fire department right away. If water was able to enter from above, we check for trapped water in the ceiling. Drywall softens when wet, and ceilings could fall onto you or our workers. We drill weep holes to free the water that is trapped in the ceiling.
Particleboard floors which have been exposed to water might not support the weight of people or machines. We examine the subfloor to figure out what it is made of and how stable it is. We also watch out for any exposed nails, broken glass, splinters, or other sharp objects that could be present in the water and the water damaged structure.
Above all else, SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale wants to make sure you and our workers are safe as we restore your home in Atwater Village, Highland Park, or Eagle Rock. Give us a call at (818) 244-6005 as soon as floodwaters have invaded your home so we can help you dry out again.

When it comes to odors, SERVPRO technicians can use air scrubbers, thermal foggers, and ozone machines to neutralize scents depending on the severity of the fire in your home. SERVPRO Professionals Thoroughly Dry Out Your Home after Water Damage
During any water-related issue that takes place inside your Glendale home, the drying process is vital. Materials could lose structural integrity if they stay saturated for an extended period. Mold growth could also occur if organic materials get left with a high moisture content for more than 48 hours.
However, though essential, the drying stage is not the first step taken during the restoration process. First, SERVPRO's water damage technicians in Glendale stop the problem from its source and make sure the work area is safe for all occupants. Next, we extract any standing water and pull any moisture out of carpet or upholstery.
After our IICRC certified technicians extract as much water as possible, the drying process begins. When completing a structural dry-out, we attempt to create the ideal environment for evaporation and drying. We speed up the natural evaporation process by using air movers to create circular air flow. The air movers accelerate evaporation by replacing moist air coming off of contents into warm, dry air.
If a water-damaged structure has an interior relative humidity of 60% or higher, dehumidifiers often get used in the drying process. Dehumidifiers get implemented to pull water vapor from the air and lower the building's relative humidity. As water coming from saturated materials evaporates into the air, the dehumidifier removes the water from the air until the structure and contents are dry.
Dehumidifiers are rated by how many gallons of water they remove from a given space in 24 hours at a temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit and a relative humidity of 60%. As a general rule the higher the temperature and relative humidity in a building are, the more efficiently the dehumidifier works. Often we turn the heat up inside your home when drying so that the air is in between 68 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Refrigerant dehumidifiers are the most common type used and efficiently drop the relative humidity in a structure to 40 gpp. Low-grain refrigerants or LGR's are refrigerant dehumidifiers that drop humidity levels below 40 gpp. Desiccant dehumidifiers reduce humidity levels much lower than refrigerant ones but possibly dry out wood to the point that it cracks.
Depending on the specific drying situation, the best type of dehumidification equipment gets used. For help from the professionals when drying out problems with water inside your home, call SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale at (818) 244-6005 any time of the day.

Get Your Basics Right When You Face Mold Damage in Glendale
SERVPRO technicians are highly trained and skilled in mold remediation techniques, call us if when you discover mold in your home.
Call on SERVPRO to Help Remediate Mold Damage
If you fail to act fast and employ the right techniques to deal with mold damage, then any organic materials they come into contact with is likely to decompose. Apart from the possible permanent damage that your property may suffer, decomposition may lead to unpleasant odors and compromise the quality of air in a room. Learning the basics can get you out of trouble by mitigating such disasters when they strike your Glendale home.
We are going to cover some of the primary steps that our SERVPRO technicians perform when attending to mold damage incidents in Glendale. To begin with, if mold spores are allowed to move to uncontaminated places, they are likely to contaminate the clean area. To prevent that, we contain the contaminated areas by introducing negative air pressure in the area. Sealing HVAC vents as well as the installation of plastic sheeting to act as a barrier can also help in curbing the unwanted contamination.
In most cases, discarding porous materials with extensive mold contamination is one of the procedures that our SERVPRO team employs. However, when the surface is hard, we can perform HEPA vacuuming or damp wipe such areas. If the materials are semi-porous, we can choose an abrasive method such as wire brushing or sanding. That means the surface we have to deal with dictates the procedure we use.
After performing the removal, it is time to prevent possible future mold growth by drying the materials to acceptable moisture content levels. Equipment like a moisture meter is helpful when measuring such readings. We can decide to put in place heaters or air movers - since our SERVPRO technicians are already through with the removal and containment processes. Removing contents that have much moisture can also enhance the drying process.
It is common to see our SERVPRO technicians with full body suits, chemical resistant gloves, eye protection, and full-face respirators. It is crucial to wear the right protective gear during the remediation process because mold damage can cause health effects.

Fire Damage and Smoke Cleanup in Your Glendale Home
If an overloaded outlet causes an electrical fire in your home, call the professionals at SERVPRO for help.
SERVPRO Works Quickly to Restore Your Home after Fire Damage
The electronics you use every day in your Glendale home can cause fires. One example is an outlet that is overloaded with power cords. All your appliances also need proper ventilation. If they do not, they can overheat, and in turn, create a house fire. Also, make sure your electronics are not out of date. Antiques are beautiful, but it is not worth burning your home down to use them. Any old electronics should be inspected by a licensed technician to make sure they are still functioning safely and adequately.
As with any other fire, electrical fires of any kind can be very destructive to your home in Glendale. As soon as the fire is out, it is vital to address the fire damage quickly, so your home does not sustain additional damage. The soot and smoke left behind are acidic and continue to harm your structure and belongings. Plus, if water was used to put out the fire, mold growth can begin in a short period. SERVPRO is always standing by to help you in a situation like this.
When dealing with fire damage cleanup, one crucial step for us is cleaning up the soot, and smoke left behind. As burning materials decompose, they release solid particles, aerosols, and gases which become suspended in the air. Oxides of nitrogen are made when organic compounds burn, and sulfur dioxide is made when inorganic compounds burn. Smoke also consists of fine particles of aerosols and matter. Solid particles are of unburned material are usually carbon. Aerosols are very fine liquid or solid particles suspended in the gases. These particles are what makes the smoke visible, and they also absorb odors, making a soot smell.
SERVPRO staff clean and sanitize your home of the soot and odors along with cleaning up the other fire and structural damage. Soot residues contain different kinds of acids, which can cause discoloration and corrosion if they stay on the materials over time. Therefore, damage continues to be done to your home until the soot is cleaned.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is trained to thoroughly clean and repair your home in Highland Park, Eagle Rock, or Glendale after fire damage has occurred. Reach out to us at (818) 244-6005 as soon as the fire is out so that we can avoid more damage being done to your home by the soot.

Calling SERVPRO To Handle Water Damage To A Grocery Store In Glendale Helps You Avoid These Issues
Water damage, even in limited intensity and scope, can be a significant detriment on your profits and future outlook.
Calling SERVPRO To Handle Water Damage
If left unrepaired, water damage to your grocery store in Glendale could drastically reduce the number of customers coming in and even possibly shutter the store. Water damage, even in limited intensity and scope, can be a significant detriment on your profits and future outlook, and these effects only worsen as time goes on. Calling a company like SERVPRO early on helps to keep your business running optimally and avoid many of these detrimental effects over time.
Worsened Public Perception
One of the most challenging effects of grocery store water damage in Glendale to detect is public reaction. While it may be clear how people perceive more severe disasters such as floods or fires, smaller issues such as leaks and pipe breaks can also negatively impact public perception of your business. If a customer notices a leak coming from a ceiling or wall even once in your store, he or she may be unlikely to return to what is now seen as a run-down establishment that does not care for maintenance. If the leak persists over just a few hours, this negative impression may be left on hundreds of individuals. Call SERVPRO as soon as you identify the problem to keep your store shining in the public eye.
While most cases of water damage are relatively easy and inexpensive to clean up and repair early on, they can quickly develop into problematic and costly thorns in your side. Even a small wet spot on a ceiling or wall can develop into a significant mold problem within only a day or two. Be proactive in tackling these issues to prevent them from growing worse.
Partial or Full Closures
While it may be difficult to allow the business to close doors for a short period to allow us to conduct necessary restorations, that period can become far longer if you wait to solve the issue. As the situation grows more complicated and damage sets in, it becomes more difficult for us to reopen doors quickly and minimize your profit loss. To keep doors open and your business alive, do not be afraid to close them first.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale provides fast, priority care to local retail stores to ensure their survival in the face of a water disaster. Call us at (818) 244-6005.

Handling Mold Damage to Your Glendale Residence Right Away
Whether you see or smell mold in your home, it is time to contact SERVPRO for remediation services.
Team SERVPRO Arrives Quickly for Mold Remedation to Prevent Secondary Damages
There is a common misconception going around that mold can “run its course” and improve conditions over time. While there are probably some situations in which once you cut off the food source for the mold spores and colonies alike that you may see a reduction in activity, this is hardly something that you want to leave to grow or thrive in your Glendale home. With the often humid and hot conditions relative to the better part of the year, it is a virtual breeding ground for fungal growth and something that you should always be mindful of as a homeowner.
When you discover mold damage in your Glendale home, it is best to call professional remediation services to help you correct the problem. The knowledge that mold damage can cause health effects notwithstanding, it is still something that can damage the contents of your home to irreparable levels. Our SERVPRO remediation specialists get specially trained to identify all types of mold and fungal growths, and also get trained in the most efficient means of colony removal for each type.
There are specific effects relative to the growth of mold in your home that both aid in helping the colony to thrive and also make it difficult for you to live comfortably in your house. One of these is the moisture in the affected area that allowed the mold to grow (and continue to thrive). While colony removal is taking place, our team is also simultaneously pulling the moisture from the region using dehumidification equipment.
The lingering musty odor is something that many homeowners find challenging about the presence of mold in their homes, as it is an invasive smell. Remedying this foul scent is relatively easy with the right tools and equipment, and our SERVPRO remediation professionals put equipment like our dense fog machine to work as part of the restoration process. This odorless chemical compound neutralizes noxious smells, leaving nothing detectable to the nose behind.
When you discover mold damage in your home, finding the right remediation services can vastly reduce the time you have to combat this scenario. Trust the experience and professionalism of SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale for all of your restoration needs. You can reach us anytime by calling (818) 244-6005.

The Right People to Trust for Flood Damage to Your Glendale Residence
Flooding happens after even the best preventative efforts. Should you experience flooding at your home, contact SERVPRO for remediation.
Team SERVPRO's Highest Priority is Drying Out Your Flooded Property
Dealing with the aftermath of severe weather is not always an easy thing to do. Depending on the longevity of the storm that your Glendale house endured, you might be dealing with a significant amount of damage from both the storm itself and the water that it allowed to enter your home and flood specific areas. Regardless of the nature of this intrusion, the only solution is to work quickly to restore the damage before it has an opportunity to get worse.
Flood damage to your Glendale home is among the hardest of natural disasters to endure and see, primarily if it has affected areas where you were storing valuable and irreplaceable things. Resolving and restoring the damage requires fast action on your part, and calling our experienced SERVPRO team can be a step in the right direction. Our professionals have all of the tools and expertise to bring your home back to the way it was before the water came in, as well as work to ensure that similar situations do not happen again.
Flood prevention is something that many residents already have invested in, or at the very least have taken mild precautions such as french drain systems around their homes to prevent penetration of water on the exterior of their residences. Unfortunately, even the best of these preventative actions can sometimes fail, or extenuating circumstances can bypass these measures to find a new way into the area that became flooded.
Our experienced SERVPRO technicians can assess the situation from the moment we arrive to determine the source of the water and prevent this problem from reoccurring from that same point of entry. Typically, this sealing gets done with the use of hydraulic cement applied to the areas where moisture is still detected.
Extraction and drying are two primary components to a flood damage restoration plan, and extraction comes first. Through the use of vacuums, portable pumps and even truck-mounted equipment, water is pulled expediently from the floors. Drying is a process that usually combines our air movers along with dehumidifiers to thoroughly dry the entire region.
Do not become overwhelmed at the sight of flood damage in your home. Our SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale emergency response team is available anytime you need us. You only have to call (818) 244-6005.

Could You Need Light Water Removal from Your Glendale Home?
A single leaking pipe can cause extensive damage, it is always a good idea to call SERVPRO to assess your water damage situation.
Rely on SERVPRO When Water Damage in Your Home is More than You Can Handle
Water removal from a Glendale home can happen from any amount of water, not just a big flood. Something as small as a single pipe leak could warrant a professional water removal job in your home. While some puddles and issues dry up on their own, it can sometimes be difficult to tell when you should contact a company like SERVPRO to take care of things. If you are ever feeling unsure, give us a call for our advice, or check if you meet any of these conditions.
Relative Humidity is Excessively High
Extraordinarily high relative humidity in your home in Glendale could warrant water removal services. Humidity in most American homes stays very low, ranging from complete dryness to around 40% RH. If your home feels humid, or if you can test the humidity and find it to be unusually high, objects and materials around the house might be at risk of developing severe damage if they remain exposed to water droplets in the air for much longer. SERVPRO provides fast and inexpensive dehumidification services if humidity is the only problem in your home, as well as thorough checks to make sure there are no other types of damage in the building.
Areas are Warped and Discolored
Warping and discoloring of any kind of material can be a crucial indicator of water damage. When water first soaks into a material and later dries up, it causes that material to warp, bend, and change, causing visible physical alterations to the object or surface in question. If you find inexplicable patches that match these conditions, they are probably the result of past or present water in your home.
Any Surface is Moist to the Touch
If you find a wall, floor, ceiling, or any other surface that is moist to the touch without any apparent explanation, chances are that this moisture may be related to a persistent water damage problem such as a leak. Investigate the spot a bit more to make sure it is not a temporary patch of moisture, and call SERVPRO if you feel that more water than meets the eye may be in your home.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale has provided the local community with expert water removal services for years. For our help in your home, contact us at (818) 244-6005.

Cleaning Mold Damage from Highland Park Homes
If mold is concentrated in one area or room, SERVPRO will seal it off to prevent the mold from spreading to other areas of the home.
SERVPRO Follows EPA Guidelines to Remediate Mold Damage in Your Home
Most Highland Park residents first notice mold from its distinctive odor. Not every type of mold gives off an odor though, so the spread of mold spores often goes unnoticed until it has grown to a point where it becomes a threat to the home.
To combat Highland Park mold damage, SERVPRO uses three primary EPA guidelines: Clean and dry moldy materials, discard items that are not cleanable, and dry non-moldy items within 48 hours. These precepts serve as the basis for our cleaning and removal procedures.
The initial procedure is to determine the size of the growth and find its source. We can accomplish this with an inspection of the common areas most conducive to mold growth: Bathrooms, crawlspaces, laundry rooms, and under kitchen sinks for example. In addition to visual inspections, we can also use air content meters to look for the highest concentration of airborne mold spores inside the home.
If we find the mold concentrated in one room or area, we isolate it from the rest of the home. SERVPRO technicians accomplish this procedure with plastic sheeting to seal off all points of access. That includes the heating and air vents, which also prevents accidentally spreading mold through the air ducts.
Now, we can begin the cleaning procedures. Our technicians use cloths and sponges on dry, powdery mold spores that rest on top of surfaces but have not penetrated into them. If the mold level is very thick, we can use vacuums with special filters designed to trap even tiny amounts of mold spores. These HEPA filters are very effective against the dry and wet mold. With wet mold, we can also use a cleaning agent to break up mold, separate the growth from the surface, and use sponges or cloths to wipe it off.
Next are procedures for removing property. Once it is mold free, we can remove it to either a mold free location in the home or to temporary storage to dry and wait until we finish remediating the home. If the items are very wet, we can set up air movers, fans, and dehumidifiers to carefully speed up the drying process and remove water from the property. For items we cannot clean, our technicians can dispose of according to state and local regulations.
Cleaning and restoring a home after any disaster is time-consuming and often frustrating for homeowners. If you are dealing with mold, contact SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale at (818) 244-6005. We are here to help you return to a clean, safe home as quickly as possible.

Fire Damage From Damaged Electrical Cords In Your Glendale Home
Electrical cords which have been damaged in your Glendale home can cause devastating fires.
Fire Damage From Damaged Electrical Cords
Electrical cords which have been damaged in your Glendale home can cause devastating fires. There are some things you can keep in mind to protect yourself from this happening, such as regularly inspecting any cords for damage, and replacing them right away. Try and keep cords from high-traffic areas, so they do not sustain damage and don’t have them somewhere you or your family members can trip over them.
Fires and fire damage from frayed and damaged electrical cords is something that needs to be cleaned up as soon as possible. Your Glendale home may have other types of damage such as some and soot, plus water from firefighting efforts. SERVPRO has the training and the tools to assist you in fixing and cleaning up all kinds of damage.
Not all fires create the same damage levels, nor do all fires need the same restoration procedures. When the fire damage is minor, smoke residues affect just specific areas or rooms. There is light to moderate residues from smoke, and our restoration processes could include dry and wet cleaning of walls, ceilings, contents, and floors. Not many areas need to be repainted, and only a few items should need replacement.
When SERVPRO staff find damage which is medium, there are moderate smoke residues, and more items need wet cleaning to dislodge residues. We also see an increase in how many items require replacement and how many areas need repainting. We may need to refinish floors, and damage from heat to cabinets, drywall, cause additional materials to be replaced. Smoke odors are noticeable and may require additional deodorization after we finish cleaning.
When it comes to significant fire damage, heat and fire damage is more severe closest to the fire’s source. Structural finishes and framing can be charred, making structure repairs needed. Smoke residues are spread throughout a big portion of your home, and the odors are strong. We need to employ emergency services such as boarding up your home, creating a source of electricity and getting rid of charred and smoke-filled debris. Our restoration process involves extensive cleaning of your home and possibly require us to pack and move out any contents which are salvageable for cleaning off-site. We likely need to use multiple methods of deodorization as well.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale take the time to thoroughly clean and repair your home in Highland Park, Atwater Village, or Eagle Rock after fire damage. Just call us as soon as possible at (818) 244-6005 after a fire so we can help restore your property.

Residential Water Removal in Glendale
After extracting standing water, SERVPRO technicians check carpet pads for damage and replace them when necessary.
SERVPRO has the Tools and Training to Properly Dry Out a Home with Water Damage
Most residential flooding in Glendale has a mundane source. A broken dishwasher or a blocked drain pipe is not as interesting as a flash flood that runs through a local neighborhood, but they can cause just as much damage.
Water removal for Glendale homes needs a professional restoration team. The actions SERVPRO has developed over the last two decades ensures we provide the best possible service for each customer, regardless of the size of the home or the amount of water inside.
Our technicians begin by removing the standing water. It is water inside the home which does not drain on its own. Depending on the shape of the home, it can just cover the carpets and floors, or it can be a foot or higher. For any amount over two inches, we start with one or more commercial grade pumps. In an average-sized home, we can remove even large amounts in a single day.
After we finish with the pumps, SERVPRO technicians switch to water extraction wands. These smaller devices draw water from surfaces that a pump is unable to remove. For trace amounts of water left on concrete, vinyl or wooden floors, other team members use long-handled squeegees to draw it out the nearest door or another exit point.
With a few adjustments to the rate of vacuum speed, we use the same extraction wands to pull water from carpets and between floorboards. Most of our wands also have a heating element, so we can also begin drying carpets and floors at the same time. Once we remove the water, one of our inspectors examines underneath the carpet. If there is a carpet pad and it has already begun to deteriorate, we remove it. In most cases, we find this necessary.
In many cases, there is also excess moisture in the air. If not removed, the high humidity can lead to floor and ceiling trim warping and pull away from the walls. We set up dehumidifiers to lower the air moisture content level. Each machine can draw over 20 gallons of water from the air and surrounding property every 24 hours.
Properly drying a home takes the right tools and training. If you have excess water in your home, call SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale at (818) 244-6005 today. We are here to help.

Approaching the Fire Damage to Your Eagle Rock Residence
SERVPRO's trained technicians have specialized equipment to rid your home of the odors left behind by a fire.
SERVPRO's Trained Technicians Fully Restore Your Home after Fire Damage
With the often-incredible heat that pours through southern California throughout the year, it is not hard to see how so many Eagle Rock homes become susceptible to fires. Even those that did not ignite in your home might affect your entire neighborhood before it gets officially extinguished through efforts from local firefighting teams. While the panic and fear of losing everything are in the forefront of your mind when the fire is still alight and burning, the afterthoughts beyond extinguishment are heavily about what you have to do next to put your home, and your life, back on track.
Fire damage to your Eagle Rock home might take a lot of different forms, especially when you consider the magnitude of the blaze from incident to incident. When you first call our SERVPRO technicians, we can hurry out to assess the damage to your home and come up with a detailed and thorough plan to restore all of the affected areas and get your house back to preloss conditions. You are intricately involved in this step of the process, as your priorities and input allow our team to better complete their tasks according to your list of priorities.
With situations that have left very little physical damage to the house, your priorities might be something as simple as getting the bad smell out of your house where your kitchen drapes went up in flames. Our IICRC-certified technicians have specialized equipment, like dense fogging machines, which allow them to deodorize the air and neutralize molecules of foul odors. Fogging leaves behind no trace of a bad smell at all, and allows you to scent the air as you see fit.
For more complex cases with much structural damage, our team works quickly to save the things that are reparable. This restoration includes all of the contents of your home in the affected areas, but also a complete cleaning of the walls and floors where smoke and soot damage has likely left a residue. Scrubbers are used for this process and do a thorough job of either completely restoring the walls in question, or at least preparing them for a new coat of paint in the future.
Depending on the complexity of your fire damage, there are numerous approaches that our skilled professionals can take to restore the damages. SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is always ready to be of service. Give us a call anytime at (818) 244-6005.

Commercial Water Damage In Glendale
Everyone knows that the sprinkler system is there to stop fire damage, but no one understands the damage that happens when it engages.
Commercial Water Damage
Glendale business owners had to deal with flooding earlier this year. The rain was needed, but it surprised many of them. Fortunately, weather-related floods are rare in this part of California. What is not so rare for area businesses is when the water comes in from damaged plumbing.
Commercial water damage surprises Glendale business owners every time it happens. Everyone knows that the sprinkler system is there to stop fire damage, but no one understands the damage that happens when it engages. Fortunately, SERVPRO has the experience, training, and equipment to restore an office or a kitchen back to their original state.
Sprinklers soak everything, that is what they are supposed to do to prevent the spread of fire. Paper products, like documents, cardboard storage boxes, and books quickly turn to a pulpy mush and must be thrown out. If the final condition is not an issue and the business owner needs to keep original contracts, we can preserve the legibility of our technicians can get them spread out on a dry surface. We use air movers to blow warm, dry air over the paper gently and while we cannot return the items to their original condition or look, we can preserve the image in many cases.
The item that usually catches the most damage next is the carpet. SERVPRO technicians use extraction wands to draw out water without damaging the nape of the carpet. If there is a carpet pad, we remove and dispose of it. Pads quickly deteriorate when they become wet, and they are cheaper to replace rather than attempt to restore. Once we remove the water, crew members use the air movers again to force warm, dry air across the surface to dry it out while preventing further damage.
In a commercial kitchen, sprinklers do not usually cause much damage to the equipment. Here, our technicians concentrate on removing water from inside equipment like fryers to safely use them again. They also dry out behind and under everything to prevent mold growth and to make the room safe to walk in again.
To accomplish this, we set up fans at exits to blow the damp air out of the kitchen as we use long-handled squeegees to push water across the floor and out of the building. Once we have the majority of the water out, we set up air movers to finish drying the floors so we can return the kitchen to the owner as soon and safely as possible.
Restoring businesses to a safe, dry condition is not something you can do with a mop and a water-vac. SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale and almost three decades of experience in helping owners reopen their doors. If you have a question about what SERVPRO can do for your business; call us today at (818) 244-6005.

Remediating Flood Damage in Glendale
Don't deal with flood damage alone. Contact SERVPRO for a quick reply and remediation.
Team SERVPRO Dries Out Your Flood Damage Carefully to Prevent Any Secondary Damages From the Event
Glendale is one of the preferred areas to live in around this part of California. The community is well-planned, friendly, and enjoys the best weather on the west coast; usually. This year saw the end of the drought, but the same rains brought problems for many homeowners.
Glendale flood damage is usually concentrated on the ground, specifically carpets and wood flooring. There is often some damage to the bottom level of drywall as well. If not dealt with quickly, a SERVPRO remediation team can spend more time and effort in demolition than in restoring your home to its pre-flood condition.
Since most of the water drains quickly after the rain stops, our technicians do not need a large pump but go directly to water extraction wands. These commercial devices look like a large water-vac, but we can determine the rate of suction to draw out water from wood floors without damaging the surface or pulling up the nape of the carpeting.
The real work needed to prevent permanent damage to either is careful drying. After we remove the water, one of our inspectors checks surfaces by feel for moisture and also uses moisture content meters to check for water trapped under carpets and floors. If we find excess, our action for carpets is to carefully lift entry and exit points in the room or hallway.
If there is no carpet pad underneath, SERVPRO technicians place one or more air movers at the entry point to force warm, dry air over and underneath the carpet. At the exit point, we place exhaust fans to draw out the cold, damp air trapped under the carpet. If there is a pad, we lift and roll the carpet out of the way to dispose of it. Replacing a pad is always cheaper than spending time and resources attempting to dry it.
We use the same air movers to dry wood floors and any affected drywall. Technicians can adjust the speed and temperature of the air movers to force slightly warm air across a surface or blow hotter air faster several inches above it. We can also direct the devices to force air up walls to dry them. In each affected room, we also set up an exhaust fan to draw out the damp air and improve air circulation. Both actions result in faster drying without causing any secondary damage.
If you are still dealing with the results of the last flood, contact our SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale offices today. Call (818) 244-6005 to schedule an inspection. We are here for you.

Unique Artwork Requires Specialized Fire Damage Restoration in Glendale
Neon light installations can be difficult to clean after a fire. Contact SERVPRO immediately to achieve best remediation results for your gallery.
Our Certified Technicians Remediate Many Types of Items After a Fire at Your Gallery
Museums and galleries contain items that cannot be replaced or replicated. When fire strikes in Glendale, restoration is the goal in many commercial situations, but artistic installations are in a class of their own. Highly-qualified restoration technicians pursue advanced training in smoke and soot mitigation to return works of art to their previous glory.
Southern California is no stranger to the captivating glow of light as art, and our area features neon offering vulnerable to commercial fire damage in a Glendale eclectic museum and gallery. A fire may result from the lighting of a poorly maintained neon sign, not appropriately rated or conforming to listing and labeling criteria. Alternatively, a fire may ignite due to other causes in the museum. Either way, the sparking may smolder, coating the vivid neon installations with a thick and difficult to remove residue that is highly corrosive. Our technicians are familiar with methods that can remove even tough and lacquer-like coatings that otherwise ruin glass like that containing the inert gases comprising neon art and signs.
The most critical thing to keep in mind when arranging for a response to fire damage of keepsakes, antiques, and artwork is soot and smoke begin to damage almost all materials immediately. Delaying a response almost ensures permanent harm of objects exposed to the acidic ashes and smoke. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification is the fire damage recovery industry’s standard-setting organization on an international level. SERVPRO soot and smoke abatement experts train to these standards, receiving certification only when they demonstrate mastery through testing and monitoring.
Cleaning soot and smoke from one of a kind glass and gas artwork require a finely tuned understanding of the types of cleaning solutions and solvents available and singular techniques that restore the delicate surfaces without disturbing the seal. Depend on SERVPRO to use all the resources at its disposal to ensure that the recovery is complete and does not damage the effect intended by the neon artist.
A museum must remain inviting to patrons, so the final task SERVPRO technicians address is any lingering odors. Smoldering fire creates an oppressive smell. Our deodorization specialists remove charred materials that emit odor molecules and then move on to sealing areas and items that cannot be cleaned further. The ultimate answer may be thermal fogging, which recreates the heat and combustion of the fire, or hydroxyl generators. Both of these methods produce tiny odor seeking particles that neutralize the equally minuscule odor-bearing bits that cause continuous smoky smells. The byproducts of these methods change the chemical composition of the odiferous materials, rendering them inert and inoffensive.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is up to the challenge of restoring fire damaging any property’s structure or contents. Call (818) 244-6005 to arrange for our skills, equipment, and dedicated workforce to return your commercial enterprise to preloss condition.

Flood Damage Restoration Services That Glendale Residents Can Trust
If you have experienced the aftermath of a flood damage incident, then you know the expensive and devastating damage your property gets.
Flood Damage Restoration Services
If you have experienced the aftermath of a flood damage incident, then you know the expensive and devastating damage your commercial property or home gets. If you are a resident of Glendale, there is more reason to be familiar with the many proven methods that can help you ward off the adverse effects associated with too much water.
It is worth noting that this is the time when you need flood damage restoration services to address every concern professionally. When in Glendale, such professional services can be offered by a company like SERVPRO. The work of trained restorers is made simple by using monitoring and detection devices. We are going to let you know how some of these tools work towards solving the problem.
When water damage technicians want to find out the far water has moved, they use a moisture sensor. It is a tool that detects the presence of moisture in materials. Once they identify moisture, the work of drying the structure to its earlier state begins. Since we now know that your property has moisture, another tool to detect the amount of moisture has to be used.
To determine the actual moisture content of a material, SERVPRO technicians use moisture meters. With that, it is possible to find out whether a structure is dry or not. We have two types of moisture meters, namely: penetrating meters and non-penetrating meters. There are probes in penetrating meters that enable the device to test whether there is moisture content within wood flooring and wall cavities. On the other hand, the non-penetrating types have sensors that do the job.
Our SERVPRO technicians also use a thermo-hygrometer to measure specific humidity. It is a device that measures both relative humidity and temperature. Before taking a reading when using a thermo-hygrometer, the tool is left to adapt to the surrounding air conditions. In a nutshell, all these tools are used to locate the damaged areas, before the actual restoration work can begin.

Glendale Bulk Grocery Store Deals With Appliance-Based Water Damage
If your freezer ever fails and allows the contents to melt, the expert water damage technicians at SERVPRO are only one quick phone call away.
SERVPRO Technicians Arrive Quickly and Bring Water Removal Equipment to Begin Drying Out Your Property Right Away
Whether a high-end specialty food store or your everyday grocery, the spots where you shop for the ingredients for your daily menus are always at risk for water damage. The many coolers, freezers, water and ice tanks, food prep areas, and even restrooms all have the potential to cause devastating water losses that you may need a professional restoration company to abate.
Your bulk grocery shoppers suffer if commercial water damage in Glendale causes even a brief closure. Perhaps the live fish tank breaks and sends contaminated water across the floor. Prep chefs in your deli may fail to turn off a faucet and a sink overflows and floods. A freezer malfunctions and an entire truckload of ice melts, damaging other food in the freezer and leaking out into the main customer areas. Once the source of the damage is eliminated, we move on to water removal and damage control.
We arrive with truck-mounted pumps and extractors to make short work of removing standing water. SERVPRO project managers create a personalized plan to restore damage linked to the water event. If flooring is dislodged or waterlogged, we restore the integrity of the surface with a thorough cleaning and the positioning of air movers and dehumidifiers. Tile or vinyl floor usually restore reasonably easily, but if there are areas with hardwood or laminate flooring, or carpeting, our technicians use techniques learned during IICRC training to restore the spaces.
Carpeting is dried in place with SERVPRO crew members employing our powerful wet vacuums and weighted wands that express as much moisture as possible, finishing with air movers, heaters, and dehumidifiers. Hardwood and laminate flooring is treated with drying mats, pulling moisture from both the top and subfloor layers. If water is trapped beneath we may remove and prop up planks, or drill holes or remove sealants to improve evaporation and movement of water vapor out of the floors.
If a freezer or tank is involved, we evaluate it, sometimes with the assistance of other contractors, for its suitability to be placed back online. We examine for mold growth and clean up and dispose of spoiled products. At all times SERVPRO is careful to avoid the risk of electrical shock and other hazards while attending to the water damage.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale can get your food store back in business quickly after a water loss. Call us at (818) 244-6005 immediately, as water damage remediation cannot wait.

Dealing with Mold Damage in Glendale
SERVPRO Mold Remediation Methodology in Glendale Works
Many Factors Dictate the Direction of Mold Remediation
Since there is little seasonal change around Glendale, many residents and homeowners forget about routine maintenance. Some mistakenly believe that with no significant drop in temperature and the damp that goes with it, their house is safer from mold than in other parts of the country. That belief is just not accurate.
Glendale mold damage can happen as quickly here as in a dank basement in the mid-west. Mold spores grow and thrive in temperatures as warm as 85 degrees. Some species live at even higher temperatures. To stop active mold growth and prevent future expansion from starting, SERVPRO has developed a process that finds the source of the mold, isolates it, kills active spores and then removes the rest.
First, is sealing off the mold infested area. Our response team blocks hallway openings, doors, and windows using plastic sheeting to isolate the mold and prevent it from contaminated more of the home. Team members also seal the HVAC vents to prevent mold from getting into the ductwork. If we found mold already in the ducts, we seal off all vents in the house to prevent mold spreading to other rooms.
Second, we wipe down surfaces to begin cleaning mold off the personal and structural property. For nonporous surfaces like glass and metal, we use either a dry or wet cloth depending on how thick the mold is on a glass table or refrigerator for example. If the surface is porous, like a carpet or sheetrock panel, then we usually recommend disposal and replacement as that usually is more cost-effective than cleaning. After finishing, SERVPRO technicians may use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter attached. These filters are designed to trap even a single mold spore.
After cleaning, we wait for the dust to settle. Our actions disturb mold, so some of it temporarily escapes to the air. When enough time has passed, we wipe down each surface again and repeat the process until we are satisfied your home is clean.
Finally, we bring down the air moisture content of your home, also called humidity, to lower the risk of mold returning after we leave. Technicians set up space heaters to carefully warm the air while installing dehumidifiers to draw moisture out of the surrounding air and property.
Remediating mold damage is not a short or easy process. With SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale on your side, it gets done correctly to put you back into your home as quickly and safely as possible. Call us today at (818) 244-6005 for more information or to schedule a preliminary inspection.

Storm Water Removal in Highland Park
Waterlogged Rooms in Highland Park Need Rapid Water Removal to Mitigate Damages
SERVPRO Provides Experienced Technicians and Equipment for Successful Flood Water Extraction
It has been a year of recovery from the statewide drought, not just the Highland Park area. We expect the same type of storms we had this Spring even stronger in the Fall and coming Winter.
If you are not familiar with the water removal process in Highland Park, it starts with hiring the right restoration service. SERVPRO has decades of experience in California and enjoys access to a nation-wide network of equipment and the latest training in removal, repair and restoration techniques.
Our response teams start with an inspection to determine the character of the water and if the home’s electricity is operational. Most stormwater is relatively clean if it is runoff from the roof that entered the property and does not present a health risk though it may require additional cleaning equipment and chemicals. If flooding compromised the electrical system, we bring in a generator from our equipment inventory to provide continuous power support.
Now that we know more about the problem, our SERVPRO technicians set-up equipment to start removing standing water. For levels about two inches and higher, we start with portable pumps. These machines can clear the average sized, three-bedroom home in less than a day. For larger homes, we may use multiple pumps to speed up the process.
After we have extracted the bulk of the standing water, SERVPRO IICRC certified response teams may switch to "Rovers" rideable extractors or water extraction wands with wet vacs. These smaller devices are designed to lift water trapped in carpets and between wood floorboards. Our personnel is extensively trained on the extraction wands to prevent causing secondary damage to the floors and carpets.
As we start with the carpets, other team members examine the walls that were partially under water. If they suspect there is water trapped behind the walls, technicians remove the floor trim and drill a set of holes into the wall to allow it to drain. Once the water is gone, we can insert tubing that appears like octopus tentacles as we circulate warm air to hasten the evaporation. We patch the holes and reattach the floor trim after moisture sensors indicate that normal levels have been achieved.
If the drywall has absorbed a significant amount of water, we use two methods to remove it. The first is to set up air movers to blow warm, dry air over the surface to slowly dry it. The other option is to set-up dehumidifiers next to the affected panels to draw out moisture from the drywall and the air surrounding them. In many cases, we use both methods to hurry the process. There are circumstances when the building materials are non-salvageable and must be discarded, initiating a replacement rather than a restoration process.
We are proud, at SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale, to support our neighbors and community recover their homes from disaster. Flooding is a very stressful and trying experience, but we are here to make you feel "Like it never even happened." For more information, call us today at (818) 244-6005.

Fire Damage Restoration in Eagle Rock
Fires can be devastating. After ensuring your safety and the safety of your family, contact SERVPRO to inspect the property right away.
Comprehensive Remediation Efforts Take Experience and Training
Homeowners often are reluctant to leave their homes when local wildfires threaten residential enclaves like Eagle Rock. If evacuation looms, know that professional help is available round the clock from our seasoned fire damage restoration crews. Modern fire recovery practices transform sooty and odoriferous homes back to preloss condition successfully and quickly.
The hot, dry summer encourages fire damage too near the Eagle Rock neighborhood for comfort. The vibrant mix of businesses and homes is irreplaceable, but safety must come first. Fortunately, our local restoration company has all the tools, training, and strategy necessary to transform your home to “Like it never even happened” condition if charring, smoke, and soot take their toll.
Let the local firefighters do their jobs while you and your family retreat to safer spaces. Then partner with SERVPRO to sort through the aftermath of the blaze. Fire damage restoration is at the heart of what we do, using tactics developed in conjunction with our training resource -- the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, Restoration, and Certification.
Expect SERVPRO to complete a thorough assessment of the condition of your home. The safety of the restoration crews and your family are paramount, so electrical hazards, slip and fall issues, and any instability to the floors or structure inform the development of the recovery plan. Fire damage restoration often starts with water damage abatement. Water is as or more destructive than the flames, and a failure to attend to water removal, drying, and specialized services like electronic or document drying must happen fast or the harm increases. Mold growth is a real concern, especially if water is allowed to remain for more than 48 hours.
Once our SERVPRO team completes water remediation, we move on to cleaning and restoring damage done by flames, soot, and smoke. Fire residues are corrosive, etching metals and glass, discoloring fabrics and plastics, and destroying the finishes on wood and laminates. The longer the soot coats and infiltrates surfaces and objects, the more likely deterioration entrenches and odors persist. Light ash and soot vacuums and dry sponges successfully. Stickier residues require spray and wipe techniques, and sometimes solvents. Superficial charring and severe soot coverings may need an abrasive cleanser and a textured sponge or scraper.
SERVPRO’s focus is restoration, and our technicians master methods that return the beauty of your home without the expense, mess, and disruption of demolition and repair. We also achieve odor elimination using progressively more technologically advanced methods.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale offers fire damage restoration based on proven procedures and the industry’s best practices. Call (818) 244-6005 for our support and a recovery plan that covers all the issues.

Use Water Removal Strategies to Save Your Glendale Home from an Overflown Tub
Leaving the water running in your tub is a very common accident that can happen to any busy person. Contact SERVPRO to remediate the damage.
SERVPRO Technicians are Available Around the Clock to Dry Out Your Property Because Accidents Happen
Sometimes, bad days start out as a rushed morning from oversleeping and then grow progressively worse. Finding yourself pressed for time in the morning can make you skip certain steps to get out the door of your Glendale home on time. Skipping the kids' bath after turning on the faucet can lead to water pouring over the side of your tub - water that flows all day long.
Whenever water-related emergencies arise and threaten a home, correct water removal methods in Glendale help set the stage for the additional steps needed to dry out the residence. While carrying out the steps follows a certain pattern, rushing through to save time can become detrimental later on. Each step has its own equipment, making teamwork easy and highly streamlined.
Saving time by adhering to the steps outlined as we earned our IICRC certificates in Water Damage Restoration (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD) decreases the amount of time water remains present and able to damage your home's interior. By speeding up the process as much as we feasibly can, SERPVPRO can also decrease the time your family might need substitute shelter with friends or family members. Our goal is to make it “Like it never even happened” so your family can get back to normal activities and routines.
The steps used begin with eliminating standing water and then progress toward extraction and elimination of the humidity in the air within your home. Applying low, steady heat to flat surfaces such as walls and floors, the evaporation rate is accelerated. We measure the moisture levels within the ceiling in homes when the tub's location is on the second floor. We use dehumidifiers until the moisture level returns to normal. Drying carpets according to the best methods for their design and manufacture helps raise our success rate. Padding is salvaged when possible, with more recent installation meaning a higher success rate. Older padding, however, generally disintegrates when saturated.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale can assist with any size water removal task. Our equipment's design and technology help us provide our customers with fast work conducted by professional employees. Contact us at (818) 244-6005 for water emergencies whenever they happen in your home.

How Glendale Mold Damage Spreads So Quickly and Effectively
Mold can spread quickly in your home, call SERVPRO to remediate and prevent any further mold growth.
Mold can spread easily when left untreated in your home
Mold damage in Glendale is incredibly difficult to treat and remove once it has taken root in a home. Resistant to heat, cold, chemicals, light, darkness, and physical abrasion, mold is near impossible to deal with without specially-designed tools and equipment like those used by SERVPRO. So, why is mold so difficult to work with? The answer starts in its biology: mold is adapted specifically to be as hardy as possible, not relinquishing its grasp on a surface until the bitter end.
All colonies, even those causing the most extensive mold damage in Glendale, start from tiny, microscopic spores. Whether it is one spore or a handful, it does not often take much for a full-force infestation to spring up. These spores mature quickly, and once they have reached maturity, they produce thousands more of their kind. These children, equally tiny and hardy as their parent organism, then mostly spread around the immediate area, taking root and growing hundreds to thousands of children of their own. In this way, mold reproduces at an extraordinary exponential rate, quickly consuming the entire surface surrounding the origin of growth.
However, if this was the only way mold could spread, the fungus would not be nearly as ubiquitous as it is in modern America. The organisms also respond to physical stimuli: should an animal or object brush against the mold, millions of spores are liable to brush off and get carried to an entirely new location. SERVPRO technicians take great care to ensure this happens as little as possible, with regular self-sanitization processes and changes of clothing. Mold can also spread due to HVAC systems, as air is circulated at a rate fast enough to pick up spores and swirl them about the home, infecting multiple rooms at a time. Keeping mold under control is almost impossible for the unprepared, but luckily, we equip our technicians with a thorough retinue of instruments and equipment for keeping mold contained.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale has helped local homeowners to overcome mold damage for years, with as little time taken and money spent as possible. Give us a call at (818) 244-6005.

Water Removal from Glendale Recording Studio
SERVPRO will work quickly to save your equipment, floors and walls from water damage.
Water removal services for your specific business
Standing water in any commercial building is a problem needing an immediate solution. Some businesses simply need the water extracted and a straightforward drying assessment and implementation for relatively water resistant materials. Others may face complications if the building materials used are more susceptible to water damage. We offer the skills and experience to provide the level of water removal and restoration needed for every situation.
The custom-designed floors and baffle walls of your Glendale recording studio require fast and expert water removal services when a broken pipe filled the performance area and control room with water. We remove the water with speed and caution due to a significant amount of electronic equipment present at your business. While experts clear the recording gear, power within the building may not be operational. Our trunk mounted pumps and extractors are on-site within hours of your first call, local electricity service is unnecessary to get the water evacuated.
Sound engineers chose exotic woods and precise geometric angles when designing the room. Particular types of wood and a complex arrangement of interior building materials are crucial to the proper acoustics musicians demand. Hardwood floor and wall material restoration are within the skill set of our highly-qualified SERVPRO technicians. Expect us to take moisture baseline measurements of floors, walls, and other materials and to use those numbers to establish drying goals for each type of structural component.
Although wooden floors survive water well in many cases, these unique floors are part of the equipment you promise your recording clients. To avoid any deterioration in sound quality, they must be restored precisely to the original specifications. SERVPRO technicians receive advanced training in hardwood floor restoration and use those skills to detect and remove any hidden pockets of water using a range of strategies. Floor drying mats, removing or lifting planks to direct air movers under and above, and even the drilling of small holes to permit evaporation are tools and methods that remove stubborn moisture.
Our SERVPRO team also checks for water trapped in the walls and ensures all excess moisture exits the studio before the job is complete. Warping or swelling of the walls may distort sound, so we work with your engineers to restore or remove and replace wall sections as appropriate.

Installing drainage systems, sealing low windows, building flood walls and levees or elevating buildings are all things you might consider, depending on your budget. Remember that the height of the electric panel inside your home is regulated by a code and must be a minimum of a foot above the flood elevation. If it is not, call a licensed flood damage contractor so that all your outlets and wiring can be elevated to the correct height.
A floating floor drain plug can help a flood damaged home when the drain pipe backs up. In the case of flood waters going into your sewage system and cause a sewage backup in your home, you need to install a backflow valve.
You should also have an extra insurance policy for flood damage, as homeowners’ policies do not cover the cleanup or repair of flood damage. When an emergency arises, SERVPRO can assist you in talking to your insurance company so you can worry about more pressing things, like your family.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock/South Glendale is standing by to help you at any time which is needed. We understand how stressful a flooding situation can be, so call us as soon as possible at (818) 244-6005.

Weakened Materials in a Home are Classic Signs of Water Damage in Glendale
SERVPRO has the tools to find the source of the water and remediate the damage.
Water Damage in your Home
Water affects building materials in a manner that is generally adverse. Even metal, which is non-porous, can suffer rust and corrosion after exposure to water. Rust can take a few days to develop, but porous items show the effects of contact with water much more quickly.
When your Glendale home suffers from water damage, both the safety and the interior aesthetics of your home decrease. Water damage can create ugly stains on walls and ceilings, soggy spots in floors, and unpleasant smells and odors that permeate and fill the air. Getting rid of these problems and others which water creates is what the technicians at SERVPRO train for, resulting in certifications and skills that benefit you and your family.
Water damage has a source, and an important part of mitigating damage related to water includes locating that source and ensuring that it no longer poses a threat. Our use of hygrometers and infrared scanning equipment can reveal these hidden sources to us. Once we have this information, stopping the influx of water in the future is easy to accomplish.
Water can create problems anywhere it is found in a home, including carpeting and other textiles. Drapes can lose color, and eventually, dry rot, crumbling when touched. Carpets and rugs can unravel when the glue in their backing dissolves. Stored clothing can become inundated with mildew spots. Moreover, these are only the problems that textiles can experience.
Your home's structure must be solid and strong to protect your family. SERVPRO technicians know how to restore this strength to your home's structure, piece by piece. Each type of material must be restored according to type, and also in keeping with current building codes. We always stay current with these requirements, assuring our customers that the finished work passes final inspections when required.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is locally owned and operated, making us Faster To Any Size Disaster, including the ones that threaten your home. Call us at (818) 244-6005 whenever your home suffers from water damage or other catastrophes.

Highland Park Kitchen Mishap Mitigated By SERVPRO Fire Damage Team
If water put out the fire, SERVPRO’s first job is to remove and dispose of the moisture.
Our SERVPRO Has the Best Fire Damage Team in The Restoration Industry
Busy lives are full of missteps, some more dangerous than others. Walking away from the stovetop happens when kids call or the doorbell rings, but so then do kitchen fires. SERVPRO experts help put your cooking areas, and other affected areas of your home, back together after fire damage.
Sorting out a disagreement between a pair of siblings took you away longer than expected from a pot of water boiling, waiting for some pasta. Instead of cooking dinner, the pot boiled dry and superheated, igniting some potholders, causing fire damage to your Highland Park home. Our fire damage restoration crews are always on standby for situations such as this. We are ready to assess and begin the cleanup and restoration as soon as the fire department gives the go-ahead.
National statistics point to unattended cooking as the most common cause for the 62 percent of home fires attributed to ranges or cooktops per year. SERVPRO team members train on a regular basis to Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) standards to be prepared in industry best practices. A project manager assesses the extent of the damage in the kitchen and other areas of the house and develops a plan to meet your specific needs.
If water put out the fire, SERVPRO’s first job is to remove and dispose of the moisture. Drying techniques begin if the area is very saturated. Then cleanup of soot, chemical residues from fire extinguishers, and smoky odors ensues. The coatings left by fire damage is highly acidic and corrosive. Waiting even a few hours before starting the cleaning process permanently discolors and etches plastics, glass, and metal.
High on the SERVPRO’s checklist is turning off your HVAC system if it is still running as it will spread soot and other residues throughout your home. If smoke sucked into the vents duct cleaning is on the agenda. We match building materials and the character of the sooty coatings when cleaning. Lighter dustings of ash and soot vacuum or dry sponge off well. We use HEPA filtration in our professional vacs. Stickier damage often responds to a spray and wipe technique. Items with many bevels or surfaces like cut glass dishes or window blinds need immersion or even ultrasonic cleaning, requiring a certified technician to operate.
If charring or melting is severe in the kitchen, some materials or appliances may need replacement. Otherwise, we strive to proceed with a restoration mentality, saving you time and money and minimizing disruption to your daily routine.

When Water Damage Happens Inside Your Glendale Residence
When a Glendale home has a spot where water is leaking, water damage can accrue steadily, day after day.
Water Damage Inside Your Home
The average American uses significant amounts of water on a daily basis for washing, preparing food, bathing and showering, watering pets and plants, and much more. The number of water-using appliances in many homes is much higher than what it has been in the past. Water must always be contained because otherwise, it can become just as damaging as it normally is beneficial.
When a Glendale home has a spot where water is leaking, water damage can accrue steadily, day after day. Fabrics, paintings, furniture, clothing and other personal belongings, and the home's interior walls and other structures can all be damaged or ruined by even small amounts of water. The longer water is in contact, the greater the damage.
Moisture that is allowed to slowly dry and evaporate naturally can increase the chances of stains developing on the surfaces of walls, ceilings, textiles, and clothing items. After these rings and water lines develop, it can be challenging, and sometimes impossible, to remove them. Preventing them before they show is much easier and cheaper than attempting to eliminate them later.
At SERVPRO, we know that the structural integrity and visual aesthetics of your home are fundamental to you and your family. Water stains can often reveal that there are hidden problems in your home's walls and ceilings. Hidden decay and deterioration can steadily grow worse and should be attended to as soon as possible.
The visual aspects, paint, wallpapers, and trim cannot be repaired and given a new look until after the interior of these structures is made complete again. We train our employees in IICRC procedures and practices so they not only know what to do, but they also know why specific processes are required.
To reduce the visible signs of water damage that can easily make your home's interior turn ugly and create grave safety concerns, make a call to SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale at (818) 244-6005. We are always ready to answer your call.

Answers Concerning Mold and Mold Remediation For Your Glendale Area Home
Mold Species, Many of Them, Cause Damage. Call on SERVPRO for Remediation to Your Glendale Property
SERVPRO Can Cleanup Mold Infestations
Mold often flourishes in warm, damp, humid areas of your home, easily spreading through airborne mold spores. It can survive in even the harshest environments just waiting for the right conditions to exist that helps promote growth.
Finding mold damage in your Glendale area home does not mean that your health is in danger. Molds and fungus can be found everywhere within our environment. No one even knows how many species of mold exist, because different species often blend, creating entirely new species that endure within the environment provided.
Common forms of indoor molds that SERVPRO technicians face include Cladosporium, Penicillium, Alternaria, and Aspergillus each of which comes with a different warning.
Cladosporium – One of the most common fungi, existing both indoors and outdoors. This species of mold produces olive-green to brown or black colonies, formed in simple or branching chains.
Penicillium – Otherwise known to produce penicillin, which is used as an antibiotic to kill or stop the growth of several different types of bacteria inside of the human body, a species that produces green colonies that sprout colorless hyphae.
Alternaria – Plant fungi that also often affects human allergens. If allowed to grow into colonies of sufficient size, 299 species can grow inside of your home, leading to hay fever, hypersensitivity and the development of asthma in some people.
Aspergillus – The first cataloged species of mold, often taking hold of starchy foods such as bread and potatoes. This species lives in oxygen-rich environments, an Aerobe that flourishes better when higher amounts of oxygen are present.
Molds do not affect all people in the same ways, mostly causing minor irritations to a fully-grown adult person, mold exists within our environment to help recycle materials back into our eco-system. Even if we could remove mold entirely, we should never attempt to do so.
SERVPRO supplies homeowners with the information needed to make informed decisions concerning mold damage on their property. You should understand that regardless of the amount or type of mold that exists, it can take a professional remediation specialist to get things under control properly.
Without the help of certified remediation technicians from SERVPRO, mold growth can return over and over, covering more of your home, and lead to continuing damage.

When Fire Damage in Glendale Threatens to Ruin Your Family's Summer
Take Care with BBQ Fires at Your Glendale Cookout
Rely on SERVPRO to Restore Your Home In Glendale After a Fire
Mid-summer is a time of fireworks and cook-outs, getting together with friends and family, and watching all of the kids play and explore. With all of that relaxation and summer fun comes the risk of fire. Blazes can begin small and seem to be inconsequential, but even small fires can burn out of control quite fast.
Glendale parties and festivities can lead to accidents that create extensive fire damage to area homes and properties. For example, if charcoal lighter fluid is placed too close to where people are cooking, or if the wind is not taken into consideration when setting off fireworks, either scenario can result in major disasters.
Outdoor fire damage is just as destructive as damage located inside a home, and if it affects the exterior of the roof or walls, pests and the elements may have been given a new way to get inside your home. Wiring and insulation could also have been damaged, as well as water pipes and interior walls. A small fire can result in a much larger problem.
The professionals at SERVPRO are skilled at assessing how much damage exists, giving them valuable insight into what needs to be done so that your home is returned to the state it was in before the accident happened. With our experience in repairs and restoration, we can make things “Like it never even happened.” We have expertise in both indoor and outside restorative repairs on homes, so no matter how big your summer disaster was, we are always able to undo the damage.
Fire damage is often accompanied by other distinct types of damage. These include water and smoke, and we have the experience to eliminate these kinds of problems, also professionally. With fires, scorching can be present, as can the melting of plastics and rubbers. Removing this type of debris, along with anything that was destroyed, is inventoried so you can keep track of these kinds of losses, but we do our utmost at keeping this list to a minimum. Anything that can be repaired or cleaned, and therefore restored, receives gentle but thorough restorative care, just as if the item belonged to us.
Sometimes, outside fire damage consists of only charred and blackened surfaces, such as stone, tile, or brick. We have pressure washers and special cleaners that can restore these surfaces back to their original appearances. Cracked sections, damaged by the intense heat that can often be produced by fire, can be replaced, leaving the area fully restored and like new once again.
Fire damage can happen both indoors and outside your home. When either occurs, SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is always ready to help get things back to normal again. Fires are known to result in very traumatic situations, no matter the unique circumstances. We can help reduce this trauma and stress by eliminating the damage. Call us at (818) 244-6005, 24/7, and we can help your family move past this and any other kind of disaster.

Dangers of a Leaking Toilet in Your Eagle Rock Home
Toilet water is contaminated and needs to be handled with care. Contact SERVPRO to remediate the damage quickly.
SERVPRO Handles BOTH Clean and Contaminated Water Damage Restoration
A toilet which is overflowing can present all kinds of dangers to your home and family. It is important that you quickly call an expert remediation specialist, such as SERVPRO, right away because the water coming from the toilet is moderately to highly contaminated. It is good to be aware of the risks if you do not ensure toilet overflow is cleaned up promptly.
When water which is contaminated seeps into places which should always be dry, it can cause a lot of water damage to metal and wood sections of your Eagle Rock home. Wood which is damp all the time attracts pests and becomes brittle, plus cracks can form, and the wood can begin to flake off. It can also absorb and retain odors from the water. On the other hand, metals are susceptible to corrosion. The rusting process goes faster with contaminated water. It weakens the iron components of your home and compromises the overall stability.
Mold can begin growing due to the damp and wet surfaces. It can form colonies on wallpaper, drywall, wood, and other surfaces. Mold can cause adverse health effects and needs to be cleaned up by our technicians at SERVPRO as soon as possible. We use special tools to find any hidden moisture and mold growth, plus sanitizers after the mold is cleaned up to keep it from continuing to grow.
Rugs and carpets are not made to be under heavy water. The water weakens latex which holds the backings together, making them susceptible to tears, rips, and delamination. Many times, our staff can use restoration methods to salvage these items.
When water contacts electrical outlets and wiring, you have an electrical hazard on your hands. Don’t let anyone into the area before the professionals come out if you see water close to wires and sockets. You are also dealing with a fire hazard, since water short circuits electrical systems, making sparks which can ignite close to combustibles.
When your toilet is overflowing, it is important to call us at SERVPRO of Eagle Rock/South Glendale right away since you are dealing with so many possible dangers. We can be reached anytime you need just by dialing (818) 244-6005.

Knocked Over Lamp Creates A Hot Mess In Highland Park
The heat from many kinds of light bulbs is capable of igniting draperies, bedding, and even rugs and carpeting, among other things.
Fire Damage Caused By Knocked Over Lamp
The worst thing that happens when a light is left on is not necessarily a high electric bill. The heat from many kinds of light bulbs is capable of igniting draperies, bedding, and even rugs and carpeting, among other things. SERVPRO is a resource for the homeowner recovering from a fire set by this or any method.
Although you cannot be certain exactly how it happened, fire damaged your Highland Park home after a lit lamp overturned in a bedroom. Perhaps a pet knocked it down, or it was teetering on the edge of a bedside table, but the bed linens caught fire. Fortunately, a neighbor noticed smoke billowing out of an open window and called 911. You rushed home to find the fire out, but damage in the room, the attic and the roof above it.
A call to SERVPRO immediately has our crew arriving right after the fire department authorizes reentry. Fire damage usually poses a complex set of issues, including the obvious charring and destruction to contents and structure, and also water and chemical residue damage, depending on how the first responders extinguished the fire.
Our project manager begins ordering the crew to secure the affected areas from the elements. If the fire burned through the wall or roof to the outside, this is crucial. Then an assessment of the damage ensues. SERVPRO technicians train in safely restoring fire damage, including ensuring that flooring is walkable and that no structural supports are in danger of falling. Water and chemicals make floors slippery, demanding extra care when moving through the rooms for the cleanup crew and the residents.
Items destroyed by flames are bagged for disposal by local rules. Porous articles like mattresses rarely survive unless they untouched by charring, and even then soot and smoke damage counsel replacement in many cases. Clothing and linens clean up well through laundering or dry cleaning, a task the homeowner may take up to free SERVPRO for more technical matters.
Furniture with soot or other residue needs a dry or wet cleaning, depending on the amount and stickiness of the coating. Our staff uses the least intrusive technique that is effective. Vacuuming and dusting are good for light coverage, while spray and wipe to abrasive cleaners may be needed in other instances. SERVPRO staff checks for charred areas as they emit odors even if cleaned, and determines whether sealing or removal is the best option.
Structural charring requires replacement of key supports, and damaged ceilings and drywall replacement may be less expensive and quicker than laborious cleaning and sealing. Throughout the process of restoration, our project manager and office staff work with your insurer to limit your out of pocket expenses. We provide as much evidence, including our professional opinions, as possible to prove your fire damage claim.
Your first call, after 991, should be to SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale when a lamp starts a household fire. Our dispatchers await at (818) 244-6005.

The Top Priorities After Water Damage to Your Eagle Rock Clothing Store
Calling SERVPRO quickly after a water damage disaster at your clothing store can get you on the remediation path. That will help you to re-open.
SERVPRO Crews Can Be on the Scene Quickly Starting the Remediation Process
Water damage is a real problem for any clothing store owner. Sometimes no matter how careful you are, water damage can happen. It might be due to a burst pipe in your store, or perhaps because of flooding or a storm in town. California has suffered some nasty storms in recent years, so you never know when your store could fall victim to water damage.
Unfortunately, your stock might not survive commercial water damage to your Eagle Rock clothing store. It all depends on how high the water level got, and how humid and wet the air is.
However, what about the rest of your store? When it comes to dealing with water damage, there are some top priorities. SERVPRO is on hand to help deal with those.
The first priority is to remove any standing water from your premises. Our teams come equipped with both truck mounted, and free standing pumps to assist. The truck mounted pumps are powerful enough to draw water uphill if need be, to leave your retail unit free of water.
The next thing we need to do is assess any damaged electronic items (such as your cash registers) and also any waterlogged paperwork such as files, look books or training manuals. We wipe down damaged electronics to remove excess water and liaise with an experienced electronics restoration vendor on your behalf. Irreplaceable paperwork is taken to a specialist facility if needed, for freeze drying. The freeze drying process prevents further damage and increases the chance of successful restoration.
We also assess all soft furnishing items such as fitting room drapes. Carpets are dried out using extraction followed by the application of air movers and dehumidifiers to encourage evaporation. There is the option to remove portable items such as drapes and take them to our dedicated restoration facility for deep cleaning.
The right combination of air movers, box fans, and dehumidifiers is necessary for drying out everything from store furniture to carpets and walls, but after drying there is one more vital step – odor removal. The lingering smell of damp is unpleasant for staff and customers alike. SERVPRO has several odor removal methods at our disposal. Air scrubbers clean the air of tiny particles and help deodorize, while ULV (ultra low volume) fogging pushes deodorization agents into a fine mist which is carefully and expertly applied wherever needed in your store.
Do not let water damage dissolve your profits. Call SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale at (818) 244-6005 for help.

Wind Storm Damaged Roofs or a Bathtub Overflow in Your Glendale Home
Tarp Service and SERVPRO Water Removal Rescue Properties from Storm Damage
SERVPRO Can Seal the Roof, Turn off the Faucet, and Dry Your Property
One of the most frustrating kinds of flood damage is overflows, simply because they are usually our fault. When you forgot to turn off the bathtub before you took a phone call, the drain was clogged when you thought it was working right, or your child started a bath without telling anyone and left the water running, you have major accidental water loss which can cause serious property damage. Then there is the unforeseen water damaged caused by a tree which busted a hole in your roof from a microburst storm.
A tub which has overflowed can create extreme damage to drywall, a subfloor, carpeting, walls or the ceiling under your tub. Depending upon how quickly you get remediation experts like SERVPRO to your Glendale home, the storm damage to many of these items can be saved. If you let the problem sit for several days, a strong odor and mold growth occur behind your drywall, creating a larger problem.
When water flows down through the ceiling from a storm, the trusses along with the portion of the ceiling and the subfloor need to be dried out. Our technicians at SERVPRO set up industrial strength fans, dehumidifiers and other equipment to dry the area out quickly.
The moisture content is checked each day with the use of moisture meters. We employ penetrating moisture meters which leave two pin-hole sized marks in the material we are checking, non-penetrating moisture meters which leave no marks and thermal hygrometers, which measure the moisture content in the air. Hydro sensors are also used to give a rough estimate of how much moisture is in porous materials like carpeting, and snake cameras to provide us with a visual confirmation of the moisture in confined areas such as under cabinets and in wall cavities.
When water flowed down in unoccupied areas, we dry the area using containment, air movers, and dehumidifiers. Containing the area minimizes how much air needs to be dried and speeding up the drying of the ceiling from water moving from an area with a high concentration of water to an area of lower concentration.
A weighted extractor takes out water from carpeting and padding in affected areas, plus we use injection drying to dry the walls from the inside out. Doing so minimizes the repair and rebuild needs and helps your home get dried out quickly with less disruption to you, at a lower cost.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock/South Glendale has the equipment and experience necessary to come to your rescue when your bathtub overflows or a broken limb from a storm has opened up a gap in your roof. Just give us a call right away at (818) 244-6005, and we can have your home back to the preloss condition in no time. For more info on Glendale: http://www.glendaleca.gov
Repairing Water Damage in Your Glendale Ceiling
Leaks Lead to Water Damage in Glendale Homes. Call SERVPRO for Restoration
SERVPRO Has the Technicians and Tools to Mitigate WaterDamage to Your Home
Water damage in your ceiling happens because of a pipe running in the ceiling bursting or from roof leaks. In a home with two levels or more, if an upper level is flooded, the water damage likely goes through the ceiling to the lower floor.
Water damage in your Glendale home’s ceiling can cause discoloration from the dampness to a complete disintegration of the material. If this element remains wet for a few days, mold can begin to grow, which can be hazardous to the health of you and your family. That is why it is important to handle water damage in your ceiling right away. You need to get a hold of a professional water damage remediation company, like SERVPRO, who can properly repair the damage as well as dry out your home.
While you are waiting for them to arrive, check to see if the water is running close to any electrical wiring. Shut the supply to the power off to avoid being shocked. Be cautious when walking under a ceiling which might be holding sufficient water to collapse on you. If possible, avoid the area altogether. A ceiling that is water damaged is soft and cold to the touch.
When our SERVPRO technicians arrive at your home, we first take a moisture reading to determine the extent of the damage. If a leak in the roof has caused the damage, the roof needs to be repaired right away, weather permitting. For small repairs, we can handle this step, or we tarp the damaged area as necessary and work with other professionals who can properly repair your roof.
After the leak is repaired, no matter the source, cleanup begins by removing all materials that are wet such as insulation and sheetrock. Any swelling, loose, or peeling plaster and drywall is scraped away. Any elements of the damaged area which are salvageable are dried with dehumidifiers, heaters, and air movers from our arsenal of equipment.
With SERVPRO of Eagle Rock/South Glendale, you can be sure that your home is dried out and repaired thoroughly and efficiently after ceiling water damage. You can easily reach us when you dial (818) 244-6005.
Mold Damage In Your Highland Park Home
Even a small, ‘soft’ spot in the roof can mean a large source of moisture for mold damage in a home.
Mold Damage And Your Home
The flooding rains of the past few months have finally stopped in our county. Many residents finally have the chance to go out, climb on the roof, and check for damage. In most cases, a ‘soft’ spot on the roof does not mean much to the average homeowners; they may not even see or feel it as they walk around. It is what might be underneath that is the concern.
Even a small, ‘soft’ spot in the roof can mean a large source of moisture for mold damage in a Highland Park home. With decades of experience in mold remediation, SERVPRO has developed a set of procedures that stops mold growth and allows us to clean and remove mold spores safely.
Our first procedure is to set up containment. Response team members hang thick, plastic sheets over doorways, windows, and other openings around the affected area. They serve as an effective barrier against contamination spreading to unaffected parts of the home. At the same time, other technicians seal the HVAC vents to prevent duct contamination and accidentally spreading mold spores to the entire house in less than a minute. They also set up negative air machines to direct contaminated air outside of the structure.
Next, comes physical removal. Structural materials like drywall and ceiling tiles are cheaper to dispose of and replace rather than attempting clean them or cut away affected sections. Carpets are particularly challenging to clean mold from and the labor hours involved restoring them exceed the value of simply replacing it. Technicians use specially designed HEPA filters and commercial vacuums to remove mold fragments from the surfaces of furniture, walls, and floors.
After the vacuuming, the response team allows disturbed dust and spores to settle and then begins wiping down surfaces. Dry or wet, they accomplish all surface wiping in the direction of the negative air machines to speed up removing them from your home. Finally, we dry the affected area to prevent new growth. We use a combination of dehumidifiers and room heaters to raise the temperature and lower the humidity.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale understands that mold can be just as damaging to a home as a flood or even a house fire. Removing mold is not a simple process, but we are here to explain and walk through every step with you. Call us today at (818) 244-6005.
Maintain Your Gutters to Prevent Water Damage to your Highland Park Home
Yearly gutter cleaning can prevent damage both inside and outside of your home. If you have water damage, SERVPRO can quickly remediate.
Regular House Maintenance can Help the Homeowner Avoid Damage in the Long Run
The cleaning of your gutters is one home maintenance project which should never be overlooked. Not maintaining your gutters can cause major problems for your home. Clogged gutters lead to expensive water damage repairs when left untreated.
The main purpose of your gutter system is to channel water off your roof and away from the foundation of your home to avoid water damage. A blockage can make water pour over the sides of the gutters and pool around your Highland Park home’s foundation. The water can create cracks in the foundation over time, potentially resulting in collapse. If the foundation does not fail, however, the water can still cause the growth of mold. If this happens, you need the professionals at SERVPRO to fix the damage from the overflowing water, including any possible mold growth.
The fascia boards which hold the gutter system together are usually made of wood. When your gutters clog and fill with water, the boards begin deteriorating and rotting. If your home has wood siding, clogged gutters also can cause water to overflow out and down the sides of your home.
When gutters clog and spill over with water, it can land in flower beds, shrubbery, or small trees surrounding the base of your home.
Cleaning your gutters is a simple task, but many homeowners skip over it, which can be dangerous since your gutters are the first thing defending your home against water damage. If you have mistakenly neglected your gutters and are facing water damage to your home because of it, our professional technicians at SERVPRO can help you to correct the problem, plus dry out your home and fix the damages.
When you choose to clean your gutters yourself, be careful when going up or down a ladder and walking on your roof. The right size ladder is needed to make the job safer, but also be sure you know how to use it correctly.
You can also hire a professional to clean the gutters for you if you are not comfortable going up and doing it yourself. It is a job that is rather affordable, especially compared to the water damage you could suffer from if you do not clean your gutters.
A professional cleaning of your gutters should include the removal of all debris from the gutters, roof, and downspouts, plus an overall check of the condition of your gutters and repairing any gutter spikes which have become loose.
When your gutters do cause water damage to your home, SERVPRO of Eagle Rock/South Glendale is standing by to help. We are easily reached at any time by dialing (818) 244-6005, so don’t hesitate to reach out for help.
Fire Damage in Highland Park can Affect Your Home's Security
Making sure that you can get in and out of your home by checking how doors close and even lock is crucial after a fire damage event.
SERVPRO Technicians Thoroughly Assess the Damage After a Fire in Your Home
One thing about house fires that is true in almost all situations is that some damage is not as visible in some parts of a home as it is in others. Some damage is in the loss of utility. A door may seem undamaged, along with its frame, but after a fire, no longer open and close correctly. Windows can also be affected this way. Heat and moisture from fighting that fire can cause wood to swell. Even after remediation has been completed, small things like this can pop up.
Situations that affect a Highland Park area home's level of security after fire damage has been remediated still needs to be remediated. Security needs to be restored. These types of fire damage-related issues can appear weeks or months after a fire. Having a situation such as this develop does not mean that the remediation immediately after a fire was unsuccessful. Wood that expands can become more porous, which in turn allows more moisture in the future to be retained, leading to swelling.
Restoring openings to your home that have become impossible to close and open correctly and quickly pose risks to your security. Intruders can gain easier access, and in the event of another disaster, leaving your home might be more difficult, resulting in the loss of precious seconds when they count the most.
Many locks on the market today are made of highly durable plastics. While these are suitable to keep out most burglars, the plastic components can melt during a fire. Some of these locks remain functioning for a while, but then stop working and fall apart internally. If this is the case in your situation, replacement of the lock is a simple enough process.
We can repair these conditions and restore the safety your family deserves. Working to restore homes of our neighbors, family, and friends, we know a safe and secure feeling is important to every family. SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale can help you with the latent and hidden effects of fire damage. No matter when you need us, we are always available at (818) 244-6005.

How Serious is the Fire Damage in Your Highland Park Home?
Let SERVPRO restore your damaged space after a fire. Call for quick action.
SERVPRO Separates Fire Damage Cases into Three Categories
Residential fires are more common than you might think, particularly in suburban areas with lots of timber framed houses. Illinois is one such area and its residents often experience accidents and mishaps in the home. In most cases, these incidents are minor and result in moderate fire damage which can be cleaned up in days.
The more severe cases present a bigger challenge, but remediation experts like SERVPRO are trained to find long lasting solutions. We provide fast, efficient repairs for fire damage in Highland Park properties and the surrounding regions. No matter the severity of your fire, our technicians are ready to help reverse its effects.
Keep reading for information on the various fire damage categories to understand more about the severity of your situation.
Category One (Least Severe)
Usually, Category One damage is the result of something like a small kitchen fire. It is identified quickly and extinguished before items have started to burn. The biggest priority for SERVPRO is the fine layer of soot and ash which covers the affected area. Often, it makes the damage look much worse than it is because electrostatically charged smoke clings to surfaces.
Category Two (Moderately Severe)
If parts of walls or ceiling get burned, the damage is more serious than Category One. Consequently, a structural assessment is required before the clean-up begins. It will determine whether there any weaknesses to the building. Damaged ceiling trusses need replacing and this is not possible until the safety of the area is assured.
Category Three (Most Severe)
Category Three is the most serious type of fire damage. It involves extensive damage to ceilings and the primary roof structure. There is severe staining on the floor and walls. High powered jet wash equipment is needed to remove large areas of oily, greasy soot. Damage this serious can take a long time to remediate, but our experts work closely with homeowners to put together a tailored repair schedule.
If a fire has caused damage to your home and you need a reliable clean up service, talk to the technicians at SERVPRO of Eagle Rock/South Glendale. We are the helping hand that can bring your property back to life. Call us 24/7 at (818) 244-6005.
Where Maintenance can Keep Your Eagle Rock Home Free of Floods
Washing machines can quickly dump large volumes of water on your floor. Call SERVPRO to remediate.
SERVPRO Technicians can Protect Your Home from Water Damage with Timely Inspections
Keeping certain objects and systems in your home clean, repaired, and modern is the first step in securing the structure from future floods and disasters. Most floods start not from storms or natural disasters but from failures within the home, many of which are easily preventable with regular checkups and maintenance. Having SERVPRO or another qualified company evaluate these critical systems could end up saving you thousands of dollars in restoration costs and weeks of headaches from restorations.
Water Pipes and Lines
One of the most easily preventable sources of water damage in Eagle Rock comes from the water pipes that run through and around your home. These pipes, typically made of copper, steel, or other non-oxidizing metals, can be prone to cracks, leaks, and outright bursts if left without maintenance for too long. Potential triggers include freezing temperatures, physical dents and impacts, or simple degradation over time. Having a trained eye running through and checking in on these systems once every few years can prevent most of the catastrophic failures we deal with regularly.
Washing Machines and Dishwashers
Large appliances that use high volumes of water such as washing machines, dishwashers, and some refrigerators are also common sources of flooding in homes nationwide. Again, water lines can rip or break, or the machines themselves can malfunction and spill water across the floor. SERVPRO inspectors know where to look for potential signs of failure, and these items usually don't take long at all to service.
Gutters and Drainage Systems
Gutters and drainage systems can get clogged up and bogged down by packed debris, potentially causing light to moderate water damage to both the interior and exterior of your home. Gutters can be checked and cleaned with just a ladder and some gloves, but some drains might take specialty equipment and more thorough work to analyze thoroughly.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is a locally-owned company with national resources, ready to respond at a moment's notice to water damage in your home. Call us 24/7 at (818) 244-6005.
Fire Damage to a Highland Park Furniture Showroom
Fire Damage Can Cause a Hot Sale in Highland Park
Call SERVPRO After a Damaging Event to Your Business in Highland Park
Damage from smoke and soot can cost a business thousands of dollars and time spent in a hotel or other temporary housing. Damage to a business such as a furniture store can shut it down after just a couple of weeks due to the loss of the income that pays for remediation and insurance.
Restoring a Highland Park business after commercial fire damage is not quick or simple. Just starting the process requires a large crew of trained personnel to examine the damage and determine what property is restorable and what is now suitable only for a landfill. Attempting to use untrained employees puts them at risk and causes further costly damage.
Upholstery is stained almost immediately and becomes permanent in less than a week. SERVPRO technicians use special vacuums and agitators to loosen smoke and soot residues to remove them. Crew members use water and chemical cleaners to accelerate the process and hopefully restore the property to its pre-damaged condition.
As long as the damage to wood furniture is not from direct flames or heat, much of it is salvageable and, although state law requires all restored furniture advertised as such before returning it to the showroom floor. The key factor in saving an item is the veneer on the wood. If it has not bubbled or ran from the heat, it can usually be cleaned safely by either wiping it down with a dry or damp cloth. Technicians use either water or a mild cleaner designed not to penetrate the veneer or the wood surface underneath.
Bathroom fixtures and kitchen appliances are equally as vulnerable. Uncoated metal in sink handles and faucets tarnish in less than a day. Fiberglass and plastic fixtures begin to yellow just as quickly. Refrigerators, stoves, and freezers are vulnerable to the pitting of their surfaces from soot. All of these items require immediate cleaning as soon as it is safe to enter the structure. The structure itself is also a source of concern and cost. In three or four days, smoke and soot destroy paint and wallpaper, pit vinyl flooring and wall coverings. These items cannot be cleaned and require replacing. For a large building like a furniture store, this alone can run into thousands of dollars.
Recovering your business as a source of income requires patience and a professional restoration team. SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale has been a leader in restoration services for decades in California and is ready to support you now. Call us today at (818) 244-6005 to begin.
Preventing Mold Damage in Your Atwater Village Home
Your home’s exterior should be inspected once a year, and any roof flashing, caulking and all breaches in the building envelope need repairing.
Your Atwater Village Home Mold Damage Prevention
Even though many molds are beneficial and harmless, there are some molds which can be toxic and pose health problems to you and your family. Some people are even more sensitive to mold than others are. Mold growth happens when there is moisture from water damage, water leaks, excessive humidity, water infiltration, condensation, or flooding. Mold needs constant moisture to be able to grow, and it can grow and spread quite quickly.
Discovering mold damage in your home can be disconcerting. However, it is possible to get rid your Atwater Village home of the mold by calling in a professional remediation company such as SERVPRO. We have all the skills, tools, and training to be able to find the source of the moisture and clean up all the mold so that your home is a safe and healthy environment for you family to live in once again.
Minimizing Mold Growth
A natural byproduct of the fungi family, mold thrives when water and organic substances combine under particular circumstances. Mold grows by spores which can stay dormant, but viable, for years. They come alive again when there is moisture present.
Your HVAC system does not generate mold, as it is metallic surface does not give the organic matter needed for mold to grow. The system, however, if not well maintained, could support the growth of mold. It is important that your system is made and installed properly, is regularly and correctly maintained, controls the moisture in your home, and uses proper filtration methods to keep the air in your home clean.
Think about pairing your air conditioner with a dehumidifier. It pulls moisture from your home, which minimizes mold growth. Do not turn off your air conditioner for long periods during the summer. Especially in humid clients, moisture levels can get very high inside, permitting mold to have a foothold. Install vapor barriers and insulation as well to stop condensation on cold objects like beams, water pipes, and plumbing fixtures.
Keep standing water out of your showers, sinks, tubs and any other areas that are frequently wet. When building a new home, ensure you have design, architectural, and methods of construction which keep water from getting into your home. Areas of concern include poorly designed balconies, doors, and windows, improperly pitched roofs, inadequate vapor barriers, improperly installed flashing, and thin stucco.
Your home’s exterior should be inspected once a year, and any roof flashing, caulking and all breaches in the building envelope need repairing. Have a professional thoroughly inspect your HVAC system regularly, including the filters and duct work, and schedule any needed repairs.

What does Mold Consume in Eagle Rock?
Leaking Spigot Leads to Mold Damage in Eagle Rock
SERVPRO Can Remediate Mold Infestations in Your Home or Business
When mold damage gets severe enough, it may cause permanent and noticeable damage to materials in your home. Carpeting, wood, structural components, drywall, paint, and more frequently require significant restoration efforts after they have been affected by a mold colony. Mold does not just grow on top of these materials - it feeds off of them, literally eating away at their surfaces and compositions. These are some of the most common materials SERVPRO has to replace during or after a mold remediation project.
Carpets sometimes attract Eagle Rock mold damage like a magnet, soaking up water and providing a sheltered place for mold to start growing. Within your carpet's fibers, mold can grow quickly and easily if it has enough water. Mold can then wrap around fibers and attack them from all sides, eating away at the material much faster than flat surfaces like drywall. Due to the speed at which it is destroyed and its ability to harbor deep-rooted mold growth, carpeting is one of the most common replacements SERVPRO has to make in a home.
Drywall and Plaster
Some types of mold may eat through drywall by consuming the cardboard backing and plaster, creating a challenging and delicate restoration task. Thankfully, we only need to need to remove and replace a limited portion of drywall in most cases, but this still may require some amount of construction work. Other insulating materials and hidden wall constructs may also need replacement or restoration, determined by SERVPRO's mold detection equipment.
Wood takes some of the heaviest damage from long-term mold growth. Although special finishes sometimes protect the wood, it also has high potential to rot and deteriorate if mold is allowed to grow around it. At risk are everything from support columns to floorboards to building materials, so this mold threat should not be taken lightly.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is an experienced local resource for combating mold and its disastrous effects. If you have found signs of mold damage in your home, call us 24/7 at (818) 244-6005.
You Need Commercial Water Removal Professionals for Your Glendale B&B when Water Lines Burst
Call SERVPRO When Your Bed & Breakfast Home in Glendale is Water Damaged
SERVPRO Helps Keep Your Business Open After a Water Intrusion
Having a Bed and Breakfast is a dream for many, and when that goal is achieved, the daily tasks involved center around providing guests with the comforts they expect. This anticipation often leaves little time for maintaining appliances and other aspects of the building 'for later.' This can lead to a multitude of problems, and several of those can include water and the damage that it causes. Not only is it against common sense to rent out rooms when there is unwanted water, it can also be against health code regulations. Even a small leak can create legal liabilities that you'd rather not face.
You might have your bed and breakfast business in your Glendale home, as many do, but because it is used as a business, when there is a water leak or a broken line, you'll need commercial water removal, and not residential. Our certified technicians can ensure that the safety of your guest rooms are up to par for health regulations and also structurally safe when the repairs are completed. Because we know that your ability to serve guests directly affects your profits, we strive to complete the required work as quickly as possible.
Returning your business to a state of dryness must be done as quickly as possible. Allowing moisture to settle in can only lead to problems in the future with secondary water damage. We know that you've placed a huge investment into your B&B, and want to explain a little of what we do. The simple version is that we raise the temperature in areas that had water, and at the same time, we increase the movement of the air. Warmer temperatures will cause moisture to evaporate, and air currents will keep that moisture from settling on other surfaces. This allows our dehumidifiers to pick up the humidity and remove it from the air.
Walls with a dead space in their interior are not as easy to dry as some other materials in the typical B&B. They can be dried more rapidly when baseboards are removed, and tiny holes are made so that air can be forced inside. SERVPRO professionals have the experience needed to determine which type of dehumidifier is best for each individual situation. Because all of these pieces of equipment work together and altering their position can affect their drying capabilities, we ask our customers not to change the placement of any equipment nor to turn any of them off unless it is specifically requested.
If the affected area is not near guests' quarters and you remain open during completion of the work, we will always take their comfort and privacy into consideration. We don't want your guests to feel displaced or uncomfortable. Someday, they may be our customers, and although we never wish anyone to have an emergency themselves, we hope to impress them with our professionalism.
Call us at the first sign of water trouble. We're SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale, and we can be reached at (818) 244-6005. We're available for any emergency, at any time.
Early Warning Signs of Danger in Highland Park Flood Damage
Don't let flooding permanently damage your property. Call SERVPRO quickly to remediate.
Important Factors to be Aware of After Flooding
Flood damage is both dangerous and unpredictable, and together, these qualities can create high-risk scenarios in your home even after the disaster has run its course. Homes are susceptible to gas leaks, fires, structural collapse, and other additional disasters even when damage is relatively light, as floodwaters may combine with other prior issues to create much more dangerous situations. One must be alert at all times when entering or inspecting a flood damaged area, so be sure to watch for these early warning signs of serious danger.
Doors that Catch on the Ceiling
One of the most dangerous and difficult to detect dangers in Highland Park flood damage cases is structural instability. It can be difficult to spot where a ceiling or wall is ready to buckle, and too often, it is only after the area has collapsed that anyone realizes the problem. One of the most critical signs of imminent structural collapse may be when doors get stuck on the tops of their frames. As weight causes the frame to sag slightly, the door will not be able to swing as usual. If a door scrapes the top of its frame, don't try to force itself open and be sure to alert a SERVPRO technician.
If you have encountered an area with an especially strong smell emanating from within, be sure to tell a SERVPRO technician right away and describe the odor. Smells are the easiest way to identify a potentially deadly gas leak, or perhaps a long-festering spot of mold growth. These odors will usually be foul, but most importantly, they stand out from others. A flooded home does not often smell good in the first place, so what you are mostly looking for is a sudden change in smell.
Cut Cords, Pipes, or Gas Lines
Any sort of line or pipe may be susceptible to oxidation or physical harm during a flood, and these can create serious hazards in your home. If you spot slashed cables, pipes, or anything that might contain a hazardous substance, exercise extreme caution and alert any nearby technicians.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is a local damage restoration company with award-winning customer service and cleanup capabilities. Call us 24/7 at (818) 244-6005.
Winning Against Mold Damage in Highland Park
Mold can appear anywhere in a home. Call SERVPRO quickly to investigate.
Steps that SERVPRO Takes When Dealing With Mold and Mold Damage
Often, removing the water from flooding is the easiest part of the restoration process. If accomplished in less than 24 hours, most home can be safely reoccupied very quickly. It is often the secondary effects of the excess moisture that lead to more extensive (and expensive) problems caused by a mold infestation.
Removing mold and mold damage from your Highland Park home is a procedure that SERVPRO is very familiar with. Our firm has been in the business for decades and has the knowledge needed to return your home to its pre-affected state.
First, our response team will remove any standing water. They do this to immediately reduce moisture levels and help stop further mold growth. If the source is damaged plumbing that we can repair, our technicians will do that as well. If it is beyond our capability, we can still turn off the water outside of your home in order to get started.
Second, our team members will isolate the affected areas from the rest of your home. All rooms and hallways found to have mold growth will be covered and sealed off with only a slit left to allow access by the technicians. Air exchange vents will be sealed off to prevent mold from spreading to your HVAC system during cleaning.
Third, we will remove all furniture and other materials that are wet or covered in mold already. Once outside the affected area, one of our inspectors will help you determine what needs to be thrown out or can be put aside for cleaning. All affected material will be bagged and properly disposed of without violating local and federal regulations.
Fourth, the response team will clean all property of mold. Non-porous surfaces (marble and most metals for example) will be sprayed and wiped down. Porous surfaces (i.e. wood and cloth) will be cleaned with a wire brush to remove mold growth from grooves and cracks and then sprayed and wiped down. For curtains and some clothing items, we maintain special washers designed to remove and trap mold from your property.
Finally, technicians will thoroughly clean the affected areas. In most cases, this will mean spraying and wiping down walls and ceilings. Carpets will be shampooed and dried to prevent further growth. Once this is completed, one of our inspectors will make sure there is no active mold growth remaining.
Removing mold and restoring your home to its original state is not a simple process. It is, however, what we specialize and have decades of experience in. SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale is ready to help get you back into your home as soon as we can. Call us at (818) 244-6005 today to get started.

Common FAQs about Restoring Storm Damage in Glendale Homes
Flood damage can be particularly devastating. Call SERVPRO after you have gotten to safety.
Knowing the Steps that will be Followed During the Remediation Process Can Help You with Expectations
If you are dealing with the horrible aftermath of flooding, caused by heavy weather or storms, the last thing that you will want is to have to worry about repairs. You need a restoration company that is tactful, sensitive, and willing to get the job done quickly, while also keeping you in the loop when needed.
This is what the experts at SERVPRO can offer you. We have many years of experience dealing with storm damage in Glendale homes and we can get repairs started fast. You can be as involved as you like. Our technicians will keep you informed, but if you are busy handling insurance claims and filing papers, they can also work reliably and independently.
To give you an idea of what to expect from the SERVPRO restoration team, here are some common questions from homeowners.
How Is the Water Removed From My House?
We have access to industrial sized pumping devices. They can be used to extract large amounts of water from flooded areas so that it can be disposed of safely. As repairs can only begin once the affected area is free of standing water, this process is essential. Our pumps come in all shapes and sizes, which means that even awkward areas like crawlspaces can be emptied and prepped for restoration.
Why Do You Need to Lift My Carpet?
This is called ‘floating’ the carpet. The SERVPRO technicians gently lift the material up by a small amount, so that they can slot a blower underneath. It circulates clean, dry air and helps the carpet to dry faster. Crucially, it also dries out any subflooring that is underneath the main carpet. If this isn’t done and the subflooring remains damp, the moisture will only reappear and cause further damage.
What Type of Dehumidifier Will You Use?
There are actually four different types of dehumidifier and they are all suited to particular types of jobs. For instance, desiccant varieties are highly effective in cold climates, but they don’t work as well around high temperatures. For this reason, they are better used in mostly uninhabited areas like crawlspaces and basements. The type of machine that we use will depend entirely on what materials are being dried and their current condition. The final decision can be made after a thorough inspection.
Do You Monitor the Drying Process?
Yes, the dehumidifiers and other drying machines will be checked on a regular basis, if it does turn out that they need to be left operational for some time. Often, the technicians have to wait for the affected space to be entirely dry before they can start cleaning and repairs. It may be that they leave you for several evenings, with instructions about how to work around the blowers and dryers while they are not onsite.

How Restoration Experts Deal with Fire Damage in Eagle Rock
SERVPRO Tip: Smoke Detectors Save Lives and Protects Property in Eagle Rock
Eagle Rock Fire Damage Ranges from Small to Severe
Once the immediate emotional and physical responses to a house fire have been soothed, there are all kinds of practical considerations to think about. This is particularly true if the damage is extensive. There may be severely degraded walls, soot-blackened furnishings, and the presence of residual smoke. All of these things require specialist attention if a homeowner wishes to move back into the property at some point.
If your home has been hit by fire damage in Eagle Rock, you’re probably feeling a little overwhelmed. It is really important that you start the repair and restoration process as soon as possible. The chance of saving your furniture and possessions is much greater if you respond quickly. Fortunately, the experts at SERVPRO are committed to carrying out repairs in a way that is sensitive, simple, and efficient.
This guide to the three main types of fire damage will help you determine the extent of the problem and get the help that you need.
Minor Fire Damage
This category of fire damage is usually used to describe incidents that have been spotted and neutralized quickly. So, for example, a pan may have caught on fire in your kitchen, but been extinguished before it could do any permanent damage. This is the most common type of fire damage, and our technicians handle it all the time. There is only a light coating of smoke residue on the walls and ceilings. There may be slightly degraded patches on door frames and walls, but only a small amount of repainting is needed. The majority of the damage can be removed with dry and wet cleaning tools. It is unlikely that furniture or other items will need to be replaced.
Medium Fire Damage
The amount of smoke residue is greater if the fire damage is moderate. A more extensive restoration process is required to remove the effects. There is likely to be a distinct and lingering odor, which requires special attention from the technicians. SERVPRO deals with smoke smell via the use of highly effective ozone machines and deodorization equipment, including thermal foggers.
Dry cleaning is unlikely to be suitable for this task, so wet cleaning tools will be brought onsite to eradicate soot and smoke. There may be multiple spots on the walls and ceilings that require repainting. In some cases, cabinets, drywall, and floors will need urgent repairs. The likelihood is that some items and belongings close to the fire will have to be replaced.
Severe Fire Damage
The most serious type of damage is from a big fire that has been allowed to burn unchecked for a time before being extinguished. However, it may be that the severest damage is limited to one room and the rest of the house has been spared. The smoke residue will be thick and its odors strong and deeply unpleasant. In most cases, we require residents to move out of the property completely while restoration work is carried out. The process may be short or lengthy, and supplies may be used to protect the structure from the elements (boarding up the windows, and a tarp service, for example). Your furniture and other items will be transported as a pack-out to our cleaning facility so that restorers can attempt to save as many possessions as possible.
Fire damage is a really tough thing to handle. It can turn a life upside down, so our job is to get repairs started quickly and with the minimum of fuss. We’ll work closely with you to save as much of the property as we can. SERVPRO of Eagle Rock is a locally based franchise, and you can get in touch with us at any time for help. Call us 24/7 at (818) 244-6005.
Four Cleaning Techniques To Remove Flood Damage in Glendale
Removing water out of your home is only the first step when it comes to restoration.
Glendale Flood Damage - Restoration Actions
Removing water out of your home is only the first step when it comes to restoration. Just because your carpets and hardwood floors are dry, it doesn't mean it's safe to walk around on. In many cases, there is soil and other contaminants left by the water that has to be removed as well.
In order to clean up after flood damage to Glendale homes, our technicians must break the bond between your surfaces and the contaminants on them. At SERVPRO, we use four specific cleaning actions to accomplish this.
Mechanical Action - This is also referred to as agitation. It is an excellent way to dislodge soil and other contaminants from carpets, hardwood floors and the fabrics. Combined with steam, hot water or one of the cleaning solutions in our inventory, this procedure can clean most of the soil and debris left behind after flooding.
Lubrication Action - This is simply making the surface of the contaminated floor or object "slippery," so the soils slide into the cleaning solution and away from the surface. The detergents we use then emulsify or capture the soils into the solution, so they don't return to the surface.
Chemical Action - When our technicians use a detergent or other cleaning solution to break down soil or some type of residue, this is a chemical action. The altered soil or residue can now be easily removed from a carpet, hardwood floor or other surface.
Suspension and Dispersion - Once soils and other contaminants are loosened from a surface, they are extracted with the cleaning solution used to loosen them. This is accomplished by either suspending (dissolving) the soil in the cleaning solution or dispersing (emulsifying) it in the solution.
After flood waters have been removed from your home, soil and contaminants can still force you to replace your carpets and floors. Regardless of the type of contamination, SERVPRO of Eagle Rock has a method to restore just about anything back to its original state. If you require our help, contact us now at (818) 244-6005 for a free inspection and estimate.
Out-of-Control Mold Damage Can Ruin Clothing and Household Items in Glendale
Mold can quickly grow from even a slight rise in available moisture.
Clothing and Household Items in Glendale Can Get Ruined From Out-of-Control Mold Damage
Mold doesn't grow only on bathroom walls and under kitchen sinks. It can be found anywhere that spores land that has moisture or humidity, organic materials, and little or no sunlight. There are many places in the typical home that meet these conditions. Mold does not need much space to grow in and can grow in cracks in older wood or even concrete. It can grow on paneling or even painted walls in the back part of dark closets. Placing shoes or boots in a closet while they are still moist from either outside weather, such as snow or rainwater, or even perspiration during the summer can provide enough moisture to allow mold to start flourishing. Mold growing can quickly spread to garments hanging in your closets.
Homeowners should know that mold damage in their Glendale home can be prevented, but sometimes there is an unexpected rise in moisture in a small area that can lead to problems. If your home has started to develop an odor that you can't quite figure out, it may be indicative of mold growing somewhere in your home. Families are very busy these days, and many times, people are sidetracked, and forget to take care of things that aren't a part of their routine. Your teen daughter giving a friend a haircut in her bedroom can lead to both of them forgetting the damp towel they've used, and it being pushed under the bed. Mold can then begin to grow on the underside of her bed, and on anything else that has been left underneath, as well.
Mold can quickly grow from even a slight rise in available moisture. A dishrag under the kitchen sink can create the same situation, as can sponges. This is because there is little airflow under a sink when the cabinet doors are closed. The conditions found under beds can often be very similar to those found under sinks.
When conditions favor mold, the mold spores present in your home can quickly begin growing. Left undisturbed, they will soon begin to produce their signature scent – musky, damp, and very pungent at times. Because all homes have mold to one degree or another, even without having a mold problem, it is the control of humidity that is essential to keeping mold from growing in the first place. SERVPRO Professionals follow both EPA guidelines and IICRC protocols in the task of mold remediation. This leads to a cleaner home, that is free of excess mold and results in a healthier environment for your family. Our professionals can show you ways to control the humidity levels in your home so that mold will not return.

Steps to Take to Mitigate Storm Damage Before SERVPRO Arrives
Storm Water in Eagle Rock Can Cause Electrical Hazards
Storm Damage Can Be Fixed By SERVPRO, Call Promptly
When storm damage hits, there is often little a homeowner can do to prevent floodwaters from entering the home. These carry immense power and can seep in through even the smallest cracks. However, when it comes to preventing damage to your home and reducing costs during the restoration process, there are a few steps you can take before a SERVPRO crew arrives. If possible, carry out these tasks before we arrive, but always be mindful of your safety and health.
Put a Barrier Between Furniture and the Floor
One of the easiest ways to mitigate harm to your furniture during storm damage in Eagle Rock is to place a small barrier between your furniture and the floor. Prop up couches, chairs, desks, tables, and anything else you can on top of wooden blocks, bricks, or some other stable object. This effort will help to keep the furniture from coming into any more direct contact with flood water.
Lay Things Out to Dry
If floodwaters have already receded from an area, you can take fabrics and objects there and place them out to dry. This placement is essential for couches and furniture with cushions/pillows because the moisture will instead become trapped inside, causing severe and often irreversible damage. Do not, however, attempt to dry items with a hair dryer or other machine. Instead, try to find a sunny or warm area to place them.
Leave Electricity Alone
Anything electrical in your home presents a major hazard following a flood, so even if you feel that turning something on is necessary, wait until a SERVPRO representative arrives to consult them. If a room is dark and you wish to enter, there may be water damage to the lights or wiring and these may present a hazard. Similarly, avoid using outlets or anything plugged in.
With expert technicians, superb materials, and a commitment to thorough work, SERVPRO of Eagle Rock is ready to handle any storm damage that hits your home. Just call us at (818) 244-6005 for 24/7 service and response.
Mold Growth is Difficult to Eradicate for Do-It-Yourselfers
Call SERVPRO to Remediate Mold Growth in Your Home
Rely on SERVPRO to Remediate Mold Problems in Your Home
Wood is an architecturally beautiful material that fits perfectly indoors and outdoors with the Los Angeles County building décor. However, the relaxing weather that mimics a Mediterranean climate is also a great breeding environment for mold. Wood is a “hygroscopic” cellulose material, which means that it can quickly soak up water, holding it like a sponge. If your home or business contains wooden furniture, walls, flooring and more and it has been damaged by water or a fire, the secondary damage is quite often mold.
What to do if you see mold damage in Glendale, whether commercial or residential. If it is starting to grow on your wood-style items, you can take immediate action and begin a cleaning intervention. Here are a few steps you can take depending on the type of wood surfaces you have. The cleaning solution for wood that is finished or painted, you need a mild solution to remove the mold. If the mold growth is embedded into an unfinished wood surface, you will need a solution that penetrates the wood to kill the mold spore roots. This is tough for the average homeowner. The following suggestions you may try, but if the mold patch is around 10 square feet, consider SERVPRO to remediate the mold growth.
For finished or painted wood items you could try:
• 1/2 cup baking soda, 1 cup water, 1 Tbsp mild liquid detergent
• Commercial mold removal product
• Distilled Vinegar
• Mixture of household detergent and water
Unfinished wood items it is highly recommended to rely on professionals. Chances are you will create more of an eyesore than already exists.
• 1/2 cup baking soda, 1 cup water, 1 Tbsp mild liquid detergent
• 1 part household detergent, and 20 parts water, do not use bleach
• Commercial mold removal product
• Distilled Vinegar
• Rubbing Alcohol or Denatured Alcohol
Remember to arm yourself with the right clothing before combining these ingredients. Wear rubber or Nitrile gloves, use safety goggles and protect any exposed skin by wearing long pants and tops with long sleeves. The EPA suggests that if using any products that has a strong smell or fumes, get rid of the mold by working in a well-ventilated area.
Before applying your cleaning solution, test a small area where the mold has begun, to make sure that it doesn't damage your wood furniture or items. When you apply your cleaning solution, let it sit for a few minutes. Scrub the area then use a dry cloth or a disposable paper towel and wipe the area clean until the mold is removed. If you are working on a finished wood surface, you will probably need to sand that item lightly. You may also need to apply a protective wood coating, like polyurethane, lacquer, or a wood stain. This difficult procedure sounds like a lot of work with unknown results and possible adverse outcomes. But not for SERVPRO Anti-Microbial Remediation Technicians. We suggest that if the visible fungi patch is on a hard surface like tile, you may try and succeed at removing the unwanted fungi.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock has experienced and highly trained technicians that can help save DIY time and effort. We are dedicated to being Faster to Any Size Disaster. Don't guess whether the mold you see in your home or office is harmful or not. The Different Causes of Commercial Water Damage
If Water Damages Your Work Place in Eagle Rock, Call SERVPRO
Work Place Water Damage is Restored by SERVPRO
When business owners visualize water damage, they often picture a massive storm wiping out power lines, flooding offices, and shutting down businesses for days at a time. It is true that commercial water damage is often the result of floods and water that stems from weather events and storms.
However, many entrepreneurs and business space renters forget that storms and severe weather aren't the only causes of floods and water damage. Commercial water damage in Eagle Rock is surprisingly common year-round, and it can drastically affect the operation of your business. Here are some of the typical causes of water damage to commercial buildings.
1. Malfunctioning sprinkler systems
Some older office and retail buildings still have outdated sprinkler systems that work in conjunction with fire protection systems. While such sprinklers can come in handy during a fire emergency, they can also cause commercial flood damage if they are faulty or in need of replacement. This could easily damage inventory and business assets.
2. Damaged appliances and equipment
This cause of commercial flood damage is more common in restaurants and catering facilities, as well as any business that has appliances and equipment that make use of water. If the appliance fails and sends water across your building, especially during late hours when no one is around, you may come back to work and face a water emergency.
3. Broken pipes and plumbing
Just like in a residence, if the plumbing system in your workplace fails water damage could be the result. If you question the stoutness of your building's
pipes, contact SERVPRO for a thorough inspection and assessment.
4. Backed up sewer lines
This is another cause of commercial water damage that often catches business owners by surprise. Should the sewer line to your building back up or become damaged, realize the potential dangers of contaminated Black Water which can cause health effects and ruin products and office furnishings. SERVPRO has certified AMRT technicians to deal with this type of water damage.

Your home may be the biggest investments that you'll ever make, protecting it by selecting a knowledgeable professional for the job is essential. Mold Damage Behind Walls
Mold is a particularly tricky substance to work with, due to the great number of hazards that accompany it.
Mold Remediation and Restoration Process
Mold is a particularly tricky substance to work with, due to the great number of hazards that accompany it. Extreme caution must be taken even by our experienced and trained technicians. One of the most common areas to discover mold in your home is behind walls and siding, as here moisture may leak in without light, creating ideal conditions for mold growth away from the watchful eyes of homeowners. By the time you smell or otherwise detect the mold, it is often too late, and we must begin the lengthy process of restoration.
Quarantining and Removing Walls
As a start to any Eagle Rock mold damage job, we quarantine off the area and make sure other sections of the home are free from mold damage. Then, we remove the outermost layers of the wall so as to fully expose the mold colony. This is essential in drying out the area and applying disinfectant or UV sanitization. If possible, we will scrub off all the mold from the wall materials and reapply it. Otherwise, we will order new materials to replace anything which can not be salvaged.
Drying and Scrubbing
After the walls are removed and the area sealed off, we dry the entire area with the help of heavy-duty air movers and dehumidifying machines. Mold needs moisture to grow, and with our thorough drying process, any further growth is quickly stopped in its tracks. Then, we thoroughly scrub the area, to make sure all traces of visible mold are gone.
Sanitizing and Deodorizing
Once all visible mold is gone, we eliminate microscopic remnants via the use of sanitizing compounds or intense UV rays (the same light waves that cause sunburn). Then, we begin the final process of deodorization, where any foul smells left behind by the mold are removed via the use of fogging devices. Then, we restore the wall as it was before, and examine our work.
We at SERVPRO of Eagle Rock make it a priority to work with you and ensure you understand the full process of mold remediation. If you have a case of mold damage in your home, call us 24/7 at (818) 244-6005 for our restoration services or a quote.

How Mitigation Saves Money for Commercial Fire Damage
Call SERVPRO To Get You Back in Business After a Fire in Eagle Rock
Commercial Fire Damage Restoration from SERVPRO
Whenever possible, SERVPRO uses a strategy of mitigation to reduce costs and response times when dealing with fire damage. Mitigation involves responding quickly after a fire has run its course and making efforts to clean up and remove material sooner rather than later. This rapid response inevitably saves both time and money during the restoration process. Here are some of the ways you can benefit from our mitigation approach to fire damage in your business.
In the immediate aftermath of commercial fire damage in Eagle Rock, many materials such as ash, soot, and debris may still be loose and unsettled. Now is the easiest time to clean up these materials, and prevent them from causing secondary damage. Even if charred debris and soot appear to be settled, it often has not had the chance to compact and work its way into the nooks and crannies of furniture and electronics. The earlier we arrive on the scene and begin mitigation, the less material will settle on floors, walls, and any other surface in the building.
The Damage is Fresh and Clearer
When the fire damage is fresh, and few forces other than the fire have impacted the structure, it makes our job of evaluating damage and determining necessary procedures all the easier. This goes hand-in-hand with the previous point as well, as falling ash and soot may commonly be sources of additional damage in the hours and days after a fire. Getting your business back in business is our objective.
Water Damage can be Avoided
Water damage accompanies many fires, from firefighter hoses, burst pipes, rain, or any other source. If our technicians can arrive on-scene fast enough, they may be able to identify any damage water sources and stop their spread. Even if we arrive too late to stop water damage, such as fire hose water reaching a basement, it is important that we remove it as quickly as possible to prevent mold growth and warping of building materials, and loss of inventory.
Restoration is Cheaper than Replacement
Ultimately, any item or surface that can be restored rather than replaced is money saved for you. The earlier our crew arrives on-scene, the more items we can potentially save. This reduces costs for you, and we also make sure to sanitize and deodorize any items to restore them to pre-loss condition, "Like it never even happened."
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock has been helping local businesses to overcome fire catastrophes for years, and our IICRC trained technicians are ready to respond at a moment's notice to your business. Call us for 24/7 service at (818) 244-6005.

Rental Properties are often Affected by Water Damage
In Glendale, water damage can be quickly restored with professionals who are experienced in this type of work.
Water Damage Can Affect Your Rental Properties
If you own rental properties, you know that sometimes tenants vacate a property in less-than-perfect condition. Sometimes the damages left behind are related to water. Standing water is not a common issue, but rather instead, water that has leaked inside a wall, or down along baseboards. Other times it is water damage found on bathroom floors and the ceilings below them. Kitchen floors are also affected by water damage.
This type of work is often beyond the scope of the average technician, and professional renovations and repairs are needed. This is because many times where water damage is present, the support beams under the floor have begun to rot. Mold can be another issue that most technicians are often not qualified to handle. Mishandling mold can create severe future problems that affect additional areas in the home than what was originally affected. In Glendale, water damage can be quickly restored with professionals who are experienced in this type of work.
Making sure that the water is no longer able to enter into the living space or otherwise continue leaking is our first step. Then we will use humidity sensors to locate where humidity has accumulated nearby and along natural pathways within your home's interior structures. As we inspect for humidity, we will also check for water damage. Peeling and bubbling paint, crumbling wallboard and drywall, and warped moldings are areas that we will repair. First, we will thoroughly dry these areas out with heaters and fans. After the area is dry, we will check surrounding areas for materials to match so that we can repair as closely to the original structures as possible. We want to make your property look “Like it never even happened.”
If your rental property has experienced water damage, please call us at SERVPRO of Eagle Rock at (818) 244-6005. We will repair and restore your rental housing to pre-damage condition quickly and efficiently.

In the Bathroom
Mold damage in Eagle Rock homes often occurs in and around its bathrooms. These areas provide the perfect atmosphere for mold growth: significant amounts of water, often with humid air, and dark most hours of the day (when not in use). Mold can form in cabinets, on towels and clothes which are not dried out, on shower curtains, or even on plain wooden walls and floors. Whenever we respond to mold damage in a bathroom, we make sure to inspect the area for extra patches thoroughly.
Behind Walls and Ceilings
Many mold patches are caused when a pipe leaks or bursts and dampens the wood surrounding it, out of view and inside walls. Here, mold can grow in dark, wet, and warm conditions, and will often do so very rapidly.
In Sheds and On Exteriors
In many cases, mold growth is limited to building exteriors and exterior sheds and garages. These are typically not as well waterproofed as home interiors, and can be more prone to soaking. Mold can develop outdoors after a period of unusually heavy rain and storming.
In Pantries and Refrigerators
When food goes rotten, it often grows mold. This mold can then branch out and spread across the surfaces inside of a pantry or refrigerator. Make sure to keep food fresh and sealed to prevent mold contamination in these areas.
SERVPRO of Eagle Rock is ready to handle any mold disaster which befalls your home. With trained and certified technicians and industry-leading equipment, we'll respond to any home damage disaster. Call us 24/7 at (818) 244-6005.

Repairing Your Fire Damaged Property
A Los Angeles residential fire can be difficult for a homeowner to deal with, causing significant property damage throughout the home. The fire may have caused damage to several rooms or even to the entire home. Perhaps the fire was localized to one room, but the smoke and water damage from the firefighting effort may have spread to other areas of the property. With fire, smoke and water damage spread throughout the building, you may be worried about the amount of time and effort it will take to restore your home to its former condition.
Taking the Right Initial Steps
You can begin the repair process after a Los Angeles residential fire almost immediately after the flames have been extinguished. Initially, take the time to survey the damage and determine the type and location of the damage in the home. If you have water present in the home, the smart idea is to use professional water extraction services to remove the water and dry out the home. This will help prevent mold growth from developing because of the moisture in the space. Then, you can move forward with the cleaning and repair process.
Cleaning the Space
If your home has been damaged by a residential fire, you may need to clean the smoke damage away. Smoke can cause odors and stain inside the home. Some areas may need to be professionally cleaned. For example, carpeting and upholstered surfaces can be professionally steam cleaned to remove the stains and odors left behind by smoke. Professionals know how to remove the smoke damage from different surfaces in the home for the best results.
Repairing the Fire Damage
The next step to take after a residential fire is to fix the damage. Removing charred materials is necessary, and these will need to be replaced with new materials. Construction efforts may be required in some cases. In other cases, the fire damage may only be superficial or cosmetic, but with all cases, fire-damaged surfaces will need to be replaced or repaired. This process can take time and effort, so many homeowners choose to outsource the work to a professional team.

Fire Damage 101
Let the professionals at SERVPRO of Eagle Rock take care of your Glendale electrical fire!
101 Info About Fire Damage
Fire damage in Glendale can occur in a moment's notice resulting in substantial property damage and loss. Determining the extent of damage is critical to predicting the outcome of the fire clean up and restoration attempt. Identifying the source of the fire is necessary to understand what conditions were favorable to ignite the fire. Although there are numerous causes of an electrical fire, one of the most commonly overlooked causes is overloaded electrical receptacles.
There is a strong possibility that an electrical fire in Glendale can occur due to a combination of problems, such as an overloaded electrical receptacle with a malfunctioning appliance plugged into it. Overcrowded electrical outlets can overtax the electrical circuit and set the stage for an electrical fire. The most obvious sign of an overcrowded electrical outlet is an electrical receptacle that contains several dual, or triple outlet extenders plugged into the primary receptacle. Although this appears to be convenient to plug in multiple power cords, this increases the chances of an electrical fire. Perhaps the underlying issue surrounds the fact that the age of the home is incapable of keeping up with modern needs. Older construction adhered to the building codes that were current at that particular time.
It is important to recognize the warning signs of a potential electrical fire in the Glendale home. If the electrical outlets appear to be emitting what feels like heat, this is a sign of a probably overloaded circuit. Anytime the outlets feel hot to the touch; the outlet is more than likely overloaded. Anytime that you smell a burning smell from the outlet, immediately unplug power cords from it and do not use it. The electrical wiring is situated behind outlet boxes in the wall, and the wiring runs behind walls. There is a significant chance that an electrical fire can lead to a house fire for these reasons.
A related concern that may predisposition the home to an electrical fire is observing flickering lights or noticing that the lights appear to be dimmer than usual. This is a problem because homeowners may confuse this with a light bulb getting ready to burn out. While this also resembles the signs that a light bulb may be reaching its maximum capacity, it is important to monitor this to ensure electrical safety. Homeowners should never make assumptions when it comes to electrical safety and the safety of those who reside within the home.

Restoring the Effects of Eagle Rock Residential Fire Damage
The debris left behind by Eagle Rock residential fire damage needs to be cleaned up and repairs made. It's important that you contact a local fire damage cleanup and restoration service like SERVPRO to get started on addressing and correcting the emergency as soon as possible.
At first sight, you might be tempted to tear down the building and start again with a replacement, but the fact of the matter is that your insurance coverage may not permit it. Of course, this is in the extremest case of devastation. Meanwhile, you have to stay somewhere else while waiting for the new building to be put up. It is more practical and cost saving to allow us to restore rather than replace your property if it is feasible.
We Offer Complete Fire Damage Restoration from Top to Bottom
You should realize that fire damage cleanup doesn't end when the flames are put out. On the contrary, the massive task of restoration is only beginning at that point. Debris needs to be removed, and water damage should be taken care of immediately to prevent the growth of harmful mold and bacteria. Structural damage has to be fully assessed and corrected.
These issues require your urgent attention if you are going to reclaim your property. Preserving your property is precisely why you need the services of a fully qualified and experienced professional cleanup and restoration authority. When you contact us, the first step we take is to conduct a full inspection of the building and give you a comprehensive assessment of the damage.

Hire the Professionals for Residential Water Damage
Water damage in Los Angeles can start as a spot in your ceiling or on your floor or wall from a leak.
Professional Residential Water Damage
Water damage in Los Angeles can start as a spot in your ceiling or on your floor or wall from a leak. This can occur anywhere in your home, and although it is tempting to fix it without calling a professional, it is not a good idea. You should instead call the professionals at SERVPRO since we have the knowledge and the special tools to take care of your water damage problem correctly. Some minor leaks might be able to be repaired, especially if the source is caught early and damage is minor. However, if you are unsure of the origin of the leakage, or if the damage has already spread or become severe, which includes the growth of bacteria or mold, it will be best to get a professional evolution of your problem instead of trying to treat it on your own. Below are a few tips:
Water Leaks are Difficult to Diagnose
If you see drips, moisture spots, or puddles of water forming in your home somewhere, it is likely that a leak is causing it. While you can see the moisture on the surfaced, the problem is that the typical homeowner might not know how to find the problem’s source. You might not get to the root of the problem by treating the visible issue, when can then lead to damage unseen behind the walls or inside your structure which can be very expensive later on to repair. The professional water restoration experts at SERVPRO know how to find the source of the problem, and then we will also fix it before more damage occurs.
Water Damage can be Difficult to Treat
The exact source of the water damage might be uncertain at first, but water leakage can happen from flood damage, a malfunctioning water pipe, or a leaky roof. Even if it is a leaky pipe and it looks like the problem is pretty clear-cut, it can be difficult to repair if you as the homeowner are not familiar with various plumbing structures and materials. If you make the wrong repair or one that is inadequate, the problem will only be allowed to continue to grow unchecked, which could lead to damage which is extensive and repairs that are very costly.
Water Leakage can Cause Serious Problems
Even Los Angeles water damage that is unseen can cause health problems for you and your family from mildew and mold. This is why it is important for professional water damage restoration specialists to catch and repair your water damage early on. Water damage restoration begins many times with thoroughly drying the materials that are wet. Sections of the wall, ceiling, or floor may need to be replaced. We complete the professional water restoration process to get your home back up and running as usual.
If you encountered water damage in your residence for any reason, don’t try to fix it yourself. Instead, contact the specialists at SERVPRO of Eagle Rock by calling us at (818) 244-6005, we can get your dilemma fixed as soon as possible.
Los Angeles Mold Growth - Los Angeles Mold Growth Advice
One of the most dangerous types of damage frequently incurred by Los Angeles homes is mold damage.
Advice About Mold Growth in Los Angeles
One of the most dangerous types of damage frequently incurred by homes is mold damage. Mold growth in Los Angeles is a relatively common occurrence, and also very dangerous. Although fires, storms, and other natural disasters can cause health effects to occupants in buildings, these are very visible and can be identified quickly. Mold growth is a much slower process and is often an unseen force in a home. As mold growth may cause adverse health effects, extreme caution must be taken when seeking to eradicate it.
Where Mold Grows
Mold will naturally grow wherever there is a biological food source, but thrives the most in dark and damp conditions. This means mold can and will grow in great patches where you have damp materials such as wood, fabric, or plant material. This often happens behind walls or in places that are openly visible. As a result, mold is often only identified from related water leaks or any odors it emits.
Why Should You be Concerned?
Mold can be extremely hazardous to a person's health. Mold can be tricky to hunt down, so consulting with a mold expert may be worth your time.
What Can be Done to Prevent Growth?
Generally, mold grows far less often and in smaller quantities when a home is dry. Fixing leaks and ensuring that all pipes in a house are sealed and in good condition are essential for ensuring that mold growth stays at minimal levels. Additionally, tools and equipment exist to help test for mold spores in the air and behind walls, and these may help you to detect hidden spots of growth.

Glendale Fire Damage - Cleanup Tips
Glendale Fire & Smoke Damage Could Use Professional Clean Up from SERVPRO
Call SERVPRO for Immediate Glendale Fire Damage Restoration
Anyone who has suffered Glendale fire damage can tell you how important it is to hire professionals to help with the cleanup process. After a house fire, you may be anxious to clean your home, salvage what you can and get your life back to normal. However, getting professional advice and help can save you time and prevent you from creating further damage. Professional fire restoration services, like those offered by SERVPRO, are highly successful at restoring household items and personal belongings.
While you are waiting for the fire restoration professionals to arrive, here is what you can do to get the process started and prevent additional damage from occurring.
First, make sure you have permission from the fire marshal to re-enter your home safely. Once you can safely and legally re-enter, your first goal should be to get the air moving. If large volumes of smoke and soot have been a by-product of the fire, do not do the following unless you have been advised that it is okay. Open as many windows as you can to increase the ventilation and allow fresh air to enter the interior. If you have ceiling fans, turn them on. You can also bring in additional fans to help move more of the air around. It is important to note that your furnace filter will need to be changed daily until it shows no signs of soot. If you have called in SERVPRO, you should sit tight because they will arrive very quickly to assess the fire damage.
If your home has also suffered water damage due to the fire, you will want to dry these items thoroughly as soon as possible. Fans and dehumidifiers will be needed to help dry out carpet and draperies. If these articles are not dried thoroughly, they may become damaged beyond repair by mold and mildew. Any items made of brass or copper will need to be cleaned using a brass or copper cleaner as soon as possible. This is because smoke, acidic by nature, reacts with brass and copper within 24 hours after exposure.
Soot can easily stain carpets, draperies and other household textiles due to its oily base. Before any cleaning or deodorizing can occur on these items, any soot must be thoroughly removed. It is best to hire a professional fire and smoke restorer who can remove any soot with a heavy-duty professional vacuum, and also special dry sponges. Trying to remove soot from textiles with your vacuum or vacuum attachments can force the soot further into the fabric, making it harder to remove. These items may also need to be properly deodorized before cleaning. Hiring a professional to help you remove smoke odor from textiles is highly recommended. Experts have access to various chemical agents and equipment like thermal foggers that help break up the smoke molecules to eliminate the odors. The type of material (fuel) that burned in the fire is a factor in determining the extent of damage from smoke and soot. The experts from SERVPRO follow the procedures as established by the IICRC in all phases of fire damage clean up.

In the event of fire damage in Los Angeles, problems can arise not only from the fire itself but also from smoke, soot, debris and destroyed objects, and also water damage from firefighting efforts. Ultimately, fire repair can be a long and difficult process, and potentially compromised structural integrity can even lead to injury. Because of this, Los Angeles fire damage restoration is typically best left to local professionals and carefully aligned with insurance policies.
Fire damage to your Los Angeles residence itself can be the most difficult hurdle in many cases. Burned objects, wood, furniture, flooring, or anything else can be especially difficult to remove without specialized tools. Additionally, it can be tough to tell which objects can be salvaged and which are damaged beyond repair thanks to commonly heavy amounts of soot and ash. Depending on the intensity of the fire, this may require a full team of people to clean up.
In addition to darkening and staining even the hardest to reach corners, smoke can also leave a pervasive smell long after the house is visually clean. This is due to tiny and microscopic particles of smoke, which often work their way into the walls and floors of the house itself. Cleaning up smoke in a Los Angeles home typically requires special equipment and a lengthy cleaning time.
Water damage often surprises homeowners as being an even larger problem than the fire damage itself. Whether through firefighters' hoses or burst pipes, heavy water damage is relatively common among fire-damaged Los Angeles homes. Depending on the scale and intensity of the water damage, this may require extensive reconstruction efforts.

No matter what caused your particular Los Angeles Home flood damage, you should be prepared for it ahead of time.
The basics of flood damage preparation could be called the ABC’s of flood preparedness. It is summed up in the following way:
A is for Always Stay Prepared: When flooding in Los Angeles occurs, it may impact more than just your home, and that can be dangerous for several reasons. You may not be able to get out of the house to get to the store. The electricity may be turned off because of the disaster or because the damage to your home is so severe it had to be shut off. The cause of the flooding could be from a weather system that can prevent you from even considering going outside.
Being prepared means having emergency supplies including first aid gear and all of the phone numbers you need. This also includes food, plenty of water because all of the water around you could be contaminated. Store dry and canned food above the level that water can easily rise in a ground floor or upper level of the home.
B is for Backups: Two of those phone numbers you should have stored away are the insurance company and one for a water/fire/disaster restoration company. It does not take long for the presence of molds to make themselves known.
It is not at all uncommon for molds to begin their growth to begin within 24 to 48 hours and it can accelerate fairly quickly. If the water is coming into your home from a sewer or septic tank backup, the water you have is contaminated with more than just whatever dust and dirt it can pick up on the way inside. The backups that this letter represents means having a backup to all of the efforts you can supply to the task of reclaiming your home from the water and the damage it brings.
C, of course, is for clean up: Know where the main water shut off is because if the water is coming from somewhere in the house, it may be up to you to get it shut off. C could also be for Calling a restoration company that can come in and do the important tasks involved in restoring your home back to a clean, safe and healthy condition.
The appropriate cleanup entails a complete inspection of all damage, including looking for molds, mildews and failing building materials because of the absorption of water or the deterioration of them by that mold.
Following the cleanup is the repair work that must occur due to the damage as well as the painting and replacing of anything that had to have been removed and disposed of.

After the removal of the water, SERVPRO technicians begin the cleaning and sanitizing of all affected areas of the Glendale home. Cleaning is critical as the water has left a layer of residue on it. This residue consists of dust and dirt as well as any debris it picked up on its travels. Hardwood furniture has a tendency to spot from water and needs fast attention. Our IICRC certified technicians are expert in minimizing damage by thorough cleaning using specially formulate agents developed for SERVPRO and other products.
It is recommended to dispose of anything that cannot be cleaned, completely. This consists of severely damaged throw rugs and carpets, although most of these can be saved through the use of carpet cleaner machines and skilled technicians. In the case of Black Water intrusion from groundwater or a sewage backup, these possessions must be safely wrapped and discarded to prevent cross contamination. Removal of parts of the deteriorating wallboard is essential since this porous material cannot be dried properly. SERVPRO, after the water extraction and cleaning, always attempts to restore water damaged materials rather than replacing them to expedite your return to normalcy and to lessen costs. We return your home to pre-loss condition "Like it never even happened."
It is critical to call us as soon as you know that Los Angeles water damage is ruining your property. SERVPRO of Eagle Rock is ready 24/7 and is awaiting your call at (323) 410-0041 for prompt service.

One of the most important services that a restoration professional will provide is cleaning your home. This is a multi-faceted process that involves the use of specialized equipment to ensure that your home is restored to its original safe, sanitary condition. Before starting the cleanup process, contractors will complete a thorough assessment of your property to determine the extent of your damages. Once the assessment is complete, the contractors will know exactly which methodologies to implement throughout the restoration process.
Once contractors have cleaned your property, they will address any damages that require repair. This can include plumbing damage, carpet and drywall damage, and structural damage. To ensure that the repair process can be completed quickly, most firms will send multiple contractors to your property. The length of time it will take for them to complete the repair process is contingent upon the extent of the fire damage in your Los Angeles home. This means that the project could take anywhere from a few weeks to several months.
Mold Prevention And Elimination
The excess water that is oftentimes left on the property following fire extinguishing efforts creates the ideal breeding ground for mold. How Glendale Mold Affects Homeowners
Residential property owners in Los Angeles can call SERVPRO when they first spot mold damage.
How Mold Affects Homeowners in Glendale
One of the most serious household occurrences that residential property owners can encounter is Glendale mold damage. Learning how to attain high-quality remediation services can help you prevent headaches, expedite the restoration process, and save money. With that idea in mind, be sure to review the quick reference guide provided for you below:
Glendale mold is a fungus that flourishes in natural settings. However, mold can also start to live and grow in residential properties if the conditions are right. The ideal setting for mold is one that is moist and wet. For this reason, mold growth and water damage go hand in hand. In order to grow and spread, mold releases spores that circulate in the air and then settle on cracks and surfaces while they are dry. Once enough moisture is present, the mold can reproduce and proliferate throughout your property.
Here is how the mold growth process typically unfolds:
• Mold starts to grow within 24 hours of exposure to sufficient moisture.
• Once mold grows, its reproductive spores are released into the air, thereby spreading the infection.
• The mold releases an organic compound that creates a musty smell. This smell penetrates the property and remains present as long as the mold continues to grow and thrive.
• Initially, mold is a surface phenomenon. With time, however, the fungus starts to penetrate building materials like drywall and wood.
Finding The Right Mold Remediation Company
In recognizing all of the adverse effects that Glendale mold damage can have on your property, you may be wondering what the solution for such invasions is. The answer is simple: find the right mold remediation company to eradicate quickly and correctly the unwanted fungus. SERVPRO's Advice for Returning to a Storm-Damaged Eagle Rock Residence
Do not enter your home if you notice odd smells, questionable structural integrity, or external flooding.
SERVPRO's Advice for Returning to a Storm-Damaged Residence
While returning home to Eagle Rock storm damage can be stressful, it's important to show caution. Furthermore, make sure that local authorities have given the all-clear before returning home.
Hold off on tending to wounded parties unless they're in dire straits or at immediate risk of worsening injuries. If you encounter anyone rendered unconscious, stabilize their neck and back if the body must be moved. Call for assistance once injured parties are safe. Beyond handling the wounded, SERVPRO advises the following:
• Watch for animals and insects; especially poisonous varieties. Mind your footing. Use a long prod to sort through debris.
• Only use phones for emergencies.
• Always carry a battery-operated radio with new batteries.
• Use a flashlight when inspecting Eagle Rock storm damage. Turn it on before entering to avoid igniting the gas.
• Avoid streets if you can; if you can't, watch for fallen power lines, debris, and unstable infrastructure.
Precautions for Reentry
Closely assess the exterior and look for structural damage, gas leaks, and fallen power lines. Do not enter your home if you notice odd smells, questionable structural integrity, or external flooding.
Safe Entrance Procedures
Follow this checklist after you can enter:
• Gas Leak: Avoid fire-related activities or objects until you can confirm gas is contained. Any blowing or hissing sounds or strange smells may indicate leaking gas. Vacate gas leaks immediately, and then shut off the main line or contact your gas provider.
• Electricity: Watch for unsafe wiring. Avoid electrical systems when either you or your interior are wet, like from flooding or Eagle Rock storm damage. Shut off power from the main breaker, fuse box, or by contacting a professional electrician.
• Interior Foundation: Evacuate upon finding cracks.
• Food Storage: Ignore supplies that have been improperly sealed, directly exposed to flooding, or otherwise contaminated.
• Sewage/Water Systems: Shut off your main valve if you see damaged pipes. Avoid drinking potentially contaminated water. Wells should be pumped and tested. Don't flush toilets until you know sewage lines function.
• Chemical Spills: Decontaminate salvageable things with soap, water, and/or bleach. Items that cannot be disinfected, such as furniture, fabrics, and drywall; should be thrown out.
• Basement Flooding: Gradually drain your basement no more than a quarter of the level a day to minimize accidental collapsing.

Important Ways to Prevent Electrical Fires in Los Angeles Commercial Structures
In many cases, businesses overload old wiring, causing overheated systems that begin to smoke and burn.
Important Ways to Prevent Electrical Fires in Commercial Structures
Commercial Fire Damage Occurs in Factories and Stores
There are necessary steps for business owners to take to avoid the risk of a devastating Los Angeles commercial fire in their building. Factories, retail establishments and restaurants have a higher incidence of dangerous fires due to the extensive amount of electrical cables and hot machinery that are used by employees. Because of the complex nature of power distribution systems in a commercial building, a business owner must maintain certain safety protocols. SERVPRO has a few steps for owner's to protect their commercial property.
Repair Electrical Systems on a Regular Basis
Many commercial buildings have ancient electrical wiring, circuit breakers and switches that lead to hot sparks that cause fires. Electric systems are typically located inside walls and ceilings where it 's hard to inspect before adding new machinery and appliances that require more power. In many cases, businesses overload old wiring, causing overheated systems that begin to smoke and burn. However, there are things that a business manager can do to avoid Los Angeles commercial fire damage.
Hire Professionals to Inspect a Business’s Electrical System
While business managers can inspect switches and wires visually on the outside of walls and ceilings, a professional electrician is required to test many electrical components such as industrial lighting or air conditioner wiring. During the inspection, the electrician will use a building’s blueprint to find any dangerous hot spots. After an inspection, a business owner should have a list of necessary repairs to avoid Los Angeles commercial fire damage in the future.
Prevent Commercial Damage with Quality Safety Equipment
Safety laws require commercial establishments to have safety equipment located in easily accessible locations to extinguish a small fire quickly before it spreads. The safety equipment needed includes fire sprinklers on the ceilings and fire extinguishers on walls. Fire safety equipment requires routine maintenance and occasional replacement. Government inspectors maintain a regular inspection schedule to ensure safety equipment is up-to-date.
Train Employees to Prevent Commercial Fire Damage
Employees should have adequate safety training to use the equipment and also know how to use machines correctly to avoid starting a dangerous fire. Management should have a written plan in place for employees to report malfunctioning machines, frayed wires or hot components as soon as possible. If a fire does occur, then employees should understand how to leave the building immediately and contact firefighters. After a fire is extinguished, never try to make repairs but contact the professionals at SERVPRO instead. SERVPRO professionals are trained and have the expertise to repair any commercial property.
