Remediating Flood Damage In Glendale Homes

Some Glendale homeowners are literally up to their ankles in water, and there is more rain in the forecast. With rain requirements already met for this and next month in many areas, cleaning and restoring a home after extensive flooding requires a professional service with more than a mop, bucket, and a bottle of pine cleaner.

SERVPRO restoration teams spend more hours on disposal and reconstruction of the structure instead of cleaning personal and structural property to remediate flood damage to Glendale homes with long-term standing water. That is why our personnel train to meet all industry standards as determined by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification).

After spraying the floodwater and all property covered by it with an anti-bacterial cleaner, technicians use a combination of pumps and smaller extraction devices to draw the contaminated water out of the home. These devices remove the vast majority of the flooding so demolition and restoration can begin.

Since we cannot guarantee a flooded carpet is clean enough for further use, SERVPRO specialists start with tearing out and disposing of all carpets touched by the floodwater. Disposal also includes the floor trim, any pads underneath, and the tack strips used to hold the carpets tight after stretching them in place.

With the carpets out of the way, team members next examine and remove drywall panels which absorbed enough water to cause them to dissolve and crumble in place. To avoid spreading the mess through the home, specialists break the affected panels into smaller pieces and bag them in place for disposal outside the home.

With the drywall gone, they perform the same inspection on the wall framing holding the panels in place. If the wood absorbed enough water to cause cracking and splitting, it is faster and cheaper to replace the 2x2 and 2x4s with new sections than to spend the labor hours sanding down the surfaces and trying to dry them.

Removing carpets and replacing interior walls are the first steps SERVPRO of Eagle Rock / South Glendale takes to restore a home after extensive, long-term flooding. If you are currently dealing with water damage, call us today at (323) 255-1000. We are here for you.
