Common Places for Mold Damage
Common Places in Your Home to Find Mold Damage
Patches of mold growth are relatively common in homes across the globe. Mold is naturally occurring, and given the right conditions, will find itself a spot in almost any home. That's not to say you should tolerate its presence, and any significant patch of mold should be professionally removed by a business such as SERVPRO as quickly as possible to avoid further growth. In this blog post, we look at some of the more common places where mold can grow.
In the Bathroom
Mold damage in Eagle Rock homes often occurs in and around its bathrooms. These areas provide the perfect atmosphere for mold growth: significant amounts of water, often with humid air, and dark most hours of the day (when not in use). Mold can form in cabinets, on towels and clothes which are not dried out, on shower curtains, or even on plain wooden walls and floors. Whenever we respond to mold damage in a bathroom, we make sure to inspect the area for extra patches thoroughly.
Behind Walls and Ceilings
Many mold patches are caused when a pipe leaks or bursts and dampens the wood surrounding it, out of view and inside walls. Here, mold can grow in dark, wet, and warm conditions, and will often do so very rapidly.
In Sheds and On Exteriors
In many cases, mold growth is limited to building exteriors and exterior sheds and garages. These are typically not as well waterproofed as home interiors, and can be more prone to soaking. Mold can develop outdoors after a period of unusually heavy rain and storming.
In Pantries and Refrigerators
When food goes rotten, it often grows mold. This mold can then branch out and spread across the surfaces inside of a pantry or refrigerator. Make sure to keep food fresh and sealed to prevent mold contamination in these areas.
